Miller, NYIT Trip Up Seton Hill

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - With 1:35 remaining in the third period, sophomore Luke Miller (Mastic, N.Y.) netted his fourth goal of the game and the eventual game-winner to lead No. 8 NYIT men's lacrosse to a 12-11 victory over No. 6 Seton Hill Saturday afternoon at President's Stadium. With the win, the Bears open the season 1-0 and the Griffins even to 1-1 overall.
Miller led all players with four goals. He also dished out two assists. Sophomore Ryan Brunet (Sound Beach, N.Y.) notched his first hat trick of the season with three goals, while A.P. Nist (Parkland, Pa.), Eric Talbot (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Cory Triola (Levittown, N.Y.) also scored a goal a piece. Senior Mike Ross (Adams, N.Y.) netted his first goal of the season and dished out a game-high three assists in the outing. Murphy also had two assists.
In the cage, senior Joe Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate win. He is 1-0 on the season and made a career-high 11 saves. The loss was dealt to Chris Ilse (1-1). He made 13 saves.
The entire game was closely played with both the first half ending in a 6-6-stalemate. Out of the break, NYIT struck first with Miller's hat trick goal off an assist from Murphy. Yet, Seton Hill retied the game, 7-7. The Bears then claimed a two-goal advantage from Brunet and Talbot. NYIT led 9-7 with 9"04 remaining in the third period. Again, the Griffins retaliated to knot the game 9-9 before Miller netted the game-winner. The fourth period saw two goals for each team.
Overall, NYIT out-shot Seton Hill 47-30, yet the Griffins held a +3 faceoff advantage (15-12).
NYIT returns to action on Saturday, March 2 on the road at Bentley. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
