Alderson-Broaddus (W.V.) Adding D-II Programs

from staff reports

PHILLIPI, W.V. -- As part of a five-sport bump for the 2012-13 season, Alderson-Broaddus College will be adding men's and women's lacrosse to its varsity athletic roll. In addition to lacrosse, the Battlers will add football, women's tennis and men's volleyball.

"This is a new and exciting time here at our school," said Athletic Director Dennis Creehan who will also serve as head football coach. "We will be adding these sports immediately as part of a new academic business model at A-B to help leverage growth of our institution.

The College is currently interviewing coaches for all the new sports. According to Creehan, once hired, these individuals will be responsible for recruiting throughout the year and the new sports will start play in the fall 2012.

The football team will play an independent schedule in 2012 and the men's volleyball team will join the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation division

The College also has plans to break ground in April on a new multi-sport complex

"This stadium will house men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse and football," said Creehan. "Along with the normal attributes like locker room facilities, stadium seating, concessions, a president's box and media boxes, it will have a turf field and lights so our student athletes can play night games."

The College plans to add a marching band, colorguard, cheerleading, and dance as well as other activities in 2013.
