Top-Ranked Mercyhurst Pulls Away from Mercy

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The top-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team won, 10-4, over Mercy Saturday. The East Coast Conference (ECC) match was played at Manhattanville College.
After the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, the Lakers took over. With 12:06 left in the second period, Brandon Thomson got Hurst on the board. Matt Hummel tied the match at 2 with eight minutes remaining in the half. At the 5:09 mark, James Chayka gave the visitors the lead with an unassisted score. Kyle Kallay capped the first half with a goal with 23 seconds to go.
Jake McAndrew kept the pressure on at the start of the second half, scoring 34 seconds in for a 5-2 advantage. Patrick Hodapp tried to keep Mercy in the game, but the Lakers responded with the next five goals of the day. Cam Edminston, Zac Reid, and Hummel each scored and then Brady Heseltine closed Hurst's scoring with two fourth-quarter goals.
Heseltine had two goals, Reid had a goal and two assists, and Kallay and McAndrew posted a goal and an assist each.
Hurst improved to 3-0 with the victory and will host Seton Hill Sunday, March 18, in its next contest. Face-off is slated for noon.
