Robbins Tabbed as Head Man at St. Rose

ALBANY – Cathy Cummings Haker, Director of Athletics
and Recreation at The College of Saint Rose, announced that Tim
Robbins has been named the College's head men's lacrosse coach. The
Golden Knights will play 13 games during the inaugural 2012
campaign and a full NCAA Division II and Northeast-10 Conference
slate in 2013.
"I am excited to announce that Tim Robbins has joined our staff and the Saint Rose community," said Haker. "Tim brings a breadth of experience and success from the years he has spent as an assistant coach and as a premier player. It is appropriate that his first head coaching position will align with the first men's lacrosse season at The College of Saint Rose."
Robbins arrives on Western Avenue via Springfield College where he served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons at his alma mater. The Pride earned NCAA Tournament bids both years he was on staff as the defensive and recruiting coordinator. The 2010 squad finished the year 14th in the country (Division III) in scoring defense and 24th in man-down defense on the way to a 13-6 overall mark.
Robbins is no stranger to the Capital Region. He spent the 2009 campaign as an assistant coach at Siena College where he was responsible for developing the face-off men and goalies as well as helping coach the midfielders and defensemen. The Saints capped off an historic season with their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history despite falling 11-4 to top-ranked Syracuse University in the first round at the Carrier Dome. The squad's starting goalie (Brent Herbst) eventually garnered honorable-mention All-America honors from the USILA after finishing second in the nation (Division I) with a 6.34 goals-against-average.
Prior to that, Robbins served as an assistant coach at Bucknell University for two years. His duties included skill development, film breakdown, scouting, game planning and team operations. Robbins worked with face-off specialists and goalies and was responsible for all in-game substitutions. He guided Bucknell's goalie (Nick Sciubba) to the best save percentage and GAA in the nation in 2007. The Bison additionally reached the Patriot League semifinals in 2007 and the finals in 2008.
Robbins also spent 2006 at Wheaton College as the head assistant
coach and defensive coordinator. He was responsible for the
defensive unit, recruiting student-athletes and developing the
strength and conditioning program. The Thunder advanced to the
Pilgrim League semifinals that year.
In the summer of 2006, Robbins served as head coach for the AAU Lax
New England District 2 team that won a bronze medal at the 2006
Junior Olympics.
Robbins was a four year starter at midfield for Springfield. The Pride were ranked in the top-10 in the nation all four years and reached the NCAA Tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Robbins was elected captain his senior year.
A native of Saratoga Springs, Robbins earned his bachelor's degree in business management with a minor in economics from Springfield in 2005. He is on track to earn a master's in physical education from Springfield next May.
Men's lacrosse will mark the 18th intercollegiate athletics program sponsored by the College. Saint Rose reinstated men's and women's indoor track and field in 2007-08, a year after both outdoor programs were restored. Men's golf was added in 1999-00. Student-athletes also don the Golden Knights logo in men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, baseball, and softball.
Lacrosse, widely considered America's first sport, is the fastest growing sport in the NCAA. The number of participants at the Division II level nearly tripled from 1981-82 to 2007-08 according to the NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report covering that time frame. In 1981-82, 476 student-athletes took part in men's lacrosse. That number ballooned to 1,258 in 2007-08.
