Sweet 16: Le Moyne Spreads Wealth in Rout

from press release

SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– The second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team got goals from 16 different players en route to a 22-2 win over American International in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

The Dolphins opened the scoring seven seconds into the game as senior face-off specialist/defensive midfielder Corey Bulken (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) won the opening face-off, raced up field and fed senior attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.), who fired in his 14th goal of the year from the left wing. Just over one minute later, Harmatuk picked up a loose ball after causing a turnover on an AIC clear attempt and found classmate Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) on the right side of the crease for his 15th tally. After Harmatuk caused another turnover, senior Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) scored his first of four goals from the right side at the 12:41.

After not scoring for the next 5:45, the Dolphins struck for five goals in a span of 5:44. Junior long-stick midfielder Brian Craig (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) knocked the ball away on an AIC clear, collected the loose ball and ran in uncontested for his second career goal. Bulken won the ensuing face-off and charged in for his third goal of the season. Following an extended possession, Harmatuk fed Alexander for his 16th goal of the season. Graduate student midfielder Mike Rabbitt (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) made the score 7-0 at the 3:57 mark following a spin move 12 yards in front of the net. Venditti capped the scoring in the first quarter with 1:12 left after taking a pass from senior midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn).

Alexander got the Dolphins into double-digits with a pair of goals in the opening 2:17 of the second quarter. He scored his team-best 17th goal off a pass from freshman Tim Beach (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and added his 18th from the middle of the crease after taking a pass from behind the goal by Harmatuk at the 12:43 mark. Chadderdon put the Dolphins in front by 11 by taking a pass from the left side of the goal from sophomore attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and depositing the ball into the back of the net.

After AIC got on the scoreboard with a goal by Dan MacIssac off a pass from Aaron McNab, sophomore Doug Bailey (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior Taylor Brooks (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) scored 1:41 apart to close out the scoring in the first half.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 15-1 2:16 into the second half as Frechette connected with redshirt junior Nick Blumer (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Hobart) and Beach for goals 1:23 apart.

MacIssac netted AIC's second goal at the 11:42 mark off a pass from McNab after a Le Moyne turnover behind the goal.

The Dolphins answered with four goals in a span of 4:22 to cap the scoring in the third quarter. Sophomore attackman Justin DePalma (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Sacred Heart) scored his second and third goals as a Dolphin to start the streak, while feeding junior John Albanese (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) for the third goal. Freshman Jon Siderewicz (Manchester, Mass./Brewster Academy) tallied his second of the campaign off a pass from classmate Rob Kunz (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) with 5:16 left.

Kunz, junior Jeff Vetter (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Bailey scored in the fourth quarter for the Dolphins, while freshman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) assisted on the goal by Kunz.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) earned the win after 24:47 between the pipes. Eric Whettell suffered the loss after giving up 13 goals in the first half.

Le Moyne (7-1, NE-10 5-0), which scored its most goals since a 22-3 win over Limestone in the NCAA Semifinals on May 20, 2006, returns to the field on Saturday against Saint Michael's at 2:00 p.m.
