No. 3 Mercyhurst Rallies Past Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. - The Mercyhurst College Lakers scored seven unanswered goals to rally for a 13-8 NCAA Division II men's lacrosse victory over host Wingate University Sunday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field on the Wingate campus.
The flurry turned a 5-2 deficit into a 9-5 lead for the number three Lakers, who won their season opener. The Bulldogs drop their first game of the 2011 season, falling to 2-1 overall. Wingate visits Belmont Abbey College Saturday at 2 p.m. Mercyhurst continues its southern swing with a visit to number nine Mars Hill College Friday at 3 p.m.
Laker junior attack Kyle Kallay (Orangeville, Ontario) had three goals to lead the Mercyhurst offense. Four teammates had two goals each. MC sophomore attack Brian Scheetz (Canandaigua, N.Y.) had one goal and four assists for the visitors.
For Wingate, sophomore midfield Derek Watts (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and junior midfield Travis Barrett (Andover, N.J.) posted three goals each. Watts and Barrett recorded two goals each as Wingate bolted to a 4-1 lead in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
