NYIT Announces 2010 Captains, Schedule
from press releases
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- NYIT men’s lacrosse
head coach Bill Dunn has announced the appointment of the 2010 team
captains. The five student-athletes who were selected as captains
are seniors Matt Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.), Kevin Hennessy (West
Babylon, N.Y.), Josh Kacpreazak (Rochester, N.Y.), Dan Quinn
(Shirley, N.Y.), and junior Bryan Gil (Holbrook, N.Y.) for the 2010
season.
“Kevin Matt, Bryan, Dan and Josh all posses the necessary
work ethic, character and leadership qualities that are staples to
the Bears program,” said Dunn. “They represent what an
NYIT lacrosse player is all about. The team and our coaching staff
could not be happier that these were the five student-athletes who
were chosen by their teammates and coaches to represent the NYIT
lacrosse program.”
Hennessy returns from an injury that ended his season early last
year. Over the past four years the former USILA LT. Donald
McLaughlin Jr. Award winner has proven to be one of the most
dominant players in NCAA Division II lacrosse. Sullivan has been
the field general of the Bears offense for the past two seasons and
had a career year in 2009. Gil was fifth on the team with 15 goals
last season, and was a key cog in the midfield.
Kacpreazak and Quinn will anchor a Bears defense that is going to
look to improve a man-down defense that ranked 17th in the
country a year ago.
NYIT will kick-off the 2010 season on Feb. 13th against Limestone
College at 1 p.m.
Dunn also announced the Bears' 2010 lacrosse schedule.
NYIT’s schedule showcases seven home games, highlighted by
the annual Northern Boulevard rivalry game against the defending
NCAA Division II Champions, C.W. Post and conference rival
Mercyhurst College. The Bears non-conference schedule will have
Bentley, Florida Southern, Limestone, Seton Hill and St.
Anslem’s.
The Bears will kick off the regular season with a trip to Florida
where they will take on Limestone on Feb. 13 in Orlando, and
Florida Southern on Valentine’s Day Feb. 14 in Lakeland.
With the expansion of the East Coast Conference to 11 teams
in 2010, the Bears have five associate members added to the
schedule. The conference slate will start on March 6 as NYIT hosts
ECC newcomer Lake Erie College. Then on March 13 the Bears will
travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for a contest against Chestnut Hill.
The following week NYIT travels back to the Keystone State to play
at Seton Hill on Saturday, March 20. NYIT will end its home
campaign with Mercy College on April 24, then cap off the regular
season at Wheeling Jesuit on May 8.
