Mercy Ready to Roll After First Fall Season
from press release
The Mercy College men's lacrosse team entered their first fall
ball season with a lot to prove, as they prepared to begin their
inaugural season of play in the competitive NCAA Division II East
Coast Conference.
In early fall, all 32 members of the 2010 men's lacrosse squad took
to Mercy College Field overlooking the Hudson River for their first
full-field, outdoor practice ever. Under the direction of head
coach Steve Manitta and assistant coach Jordan Levine, the
Mavericks went to work preparing for fall play.
On Oct. 17, Mercy College traveled down the river to Throgs Neck,
N.Y., to play in three-way tournament at SUNY Martime against the
Privateers and Mount Ida in the first-ever Toys for Tots Fall
Classic. The Mavericks squad wore pink shoe laces in support of
Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The first-ever fall tournament for the Mavericks highlighted
freshman midfielder Alex Martello (Montville, N.J./Montville),
freshman attackman Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y./North
Babylon) and freshman attackman Frank Henenlotter (Lynbrook,
N.Y./Lynbrook), who combined for 10 points in the two-game round
robin. Martello had four goals, Henenlotter netted three, and
Marzocca tallied two goals and an assist.
The Mavericks open their 2010 spring season with a scrimmage
against Vassar College on Feb. 13 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. First
face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Gordon Field.
