Limestone Travels to Le Moyne for Rematch
from press release
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Fourth-ranked Limestone will square
off at top-ranked Le Moyne in the semifinals of the 2010 NCAA
Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 22nd with
the face-off time at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex to be
determined with the winner advancing to play the C.W. Post/Dowling
winner in the national title game on Sunday, May 30th at M&T
Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. Pairings were announced late
Sunday night.
This marks the 11th consecutive season that Limestone has
represented its region in the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse
Championships. The Saints seek their first title game appearance
since the 2005 season, the last of a six-year run reaching the
title game (2000-2005). Limestone won the championship in 2000 and
2002.
Limestone, 12-1 on the season, has won 10 straight since an 8-6
loss to now 14-1 Le Moyne back on March 7th in Severna Park,
Maryland. Limestone, representing the South Region, posted an
in-region record of 12-0 while Le Moyne was 11-1 within its region
to represent the North.
While it's the 10th all-time meeting between the Saints and the
Dolphins this latest grudge match will be the fifth in the
postseason with the last coming in the 2007 semifinals when Le
Moyne prevailed 8-5 in Syracuse, N.Y. Limestone's lone series win
in nine tries to date came in the 2005 semifinals, 9-8, in Dolphin
country. And while Le Moyne won a 2006 semifinal clash, also in
Syracuse, the Dolphins and Limestone met in an epic double overtime
showdown in the 2004 national championship with the Saints falling
11-10.
Limestone holds a mark of 7-8 all-time in the NCAA Division II
Men's Lacrosse Championships dating back to its first appearance in
2000.
