Top-Ranked C.W. Post Continues to Roll

Senior Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and sophomore Eddie Plompen
(West Islip, N.Y.) tallied three goals apiece, while junior Nick
Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif) notched two goals and two assists for
the top ranked C.W. Post men’s lacrosse team, as they charged
to a 10-3 victory over Dominican College on Wednesday
afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the ECC, while
Dominican slips to 3-3, 2-2 in conference play.
The first half started out scoreless for close to the first 10
minutes of play, with 6:07 remaining in the first quarter, Meo took
over, scoring at hat trick in the first quarter to give C.W. Post
the momentum. Meo’s first goal of the game off of a Matt
Riccio (Trumbull, Conn.) feed. He scored another goal at
4:00, this time unassisted. The senior attacker rounded out
his scoring with a man-up goal at 1:47, assisted by Vito Minerva
(Nesconset, N.Y.) to put the Pioneers up 3-0.
The Pioneers took a 4-0 lead on Coric’s first goal of the
game, assisted by Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) at 13:04 in the
second quarter. Plompen then scored back-to-back goals at
10:28 and 9:18 to give the Pioneers a 6-0 advantage.
Coric found the back of the net again just 18 seconds later on an
assist from Joe Blount (Inwood, N.Y.), and the Pioneers held a 7-0
advantage. Dominican finally got on the board at 7:21 in the
second as Tyler Douglas notched an unassisted tally, but C.W.
answered right back with a Messina goal off a Coric feed.
Alex Jones scored for Dominican at 3:45 in the second, and at
halftime, C.W. Post led 8-2.
Plompen’s final goal of the day, coming from a Messina
assist, gave C.W. Post a 9-2 edge. Sophomore attacker Keith
Rodriquez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) scored unassisted at 6:14 in the
third, giving C.W. Post a 10-2 lead. A fourth-quarter goal by
Jesse Peterson was as much of a comeback as Dominican could muster
as C.W. Post rolled to the 10-3 final score.
Junior goalkeeper Dan Orlando (South Hempsted, N.Y.) made eight
saves in the net, allowing three goals in earning the win.
Counterpart Brendan Bonacum allowed 10 goals and made 27 saves.
Offensively, Messina also added two goals for the Pioneers, who
outshot Dominican 43-20. Senior midfielder Mike Cama
(Levittown, N.Y.) on 11-of-15 faceoff attempts and picked up nine
groundballs. The Pioneers were successful on 16-of-21 clear
attempts and were 2-for-6 in man-up situations.
Head coach John Jez and the Pioneers resume action on Sunday, March
28, at Southern New Hampshire for a 1 p.m. contest.
