Early Lead Boosts No. 6 Limestone to Win
from press release
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Limestone jumped out to a 6-1 first quarter lead against visiting Florida Southern College and never looked back in men's lacrosse action on Friday. Brian Patridge (Columbus, Ohio) and Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) each tallied 3 goals and an assist to lead the Saints in points. For a second straight game, the Saints had eight different scorers and out shot their opponents nearly two-to-one.
Patridge struck first for the Saints in the opening minute with an unassisted goal. However, the Mocs would respond with an unassisted goal of their own by Jon Freda at the 10:06 mark. Limestone would find the net from five different scorers to finish off the quarter.
The second quarter featured defensive stands from both teams, with FSC's Corey Brown scoring the only goal of the second quarter.
Limestone came out in the second half and scored eight unanswered goals to pull away from FSC, 14-2. Rogalia opened the second half with a quick strike 47 seconds into the quarter, with Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) following with the only extra man goal of the game off a Patridge feed.
Seabrooke Carter led Florida Southern with two goals, while Mike Murtha and Andrew Almansberger combined for 14 saves.
Teddy Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) led all players with a game high 10 groundballs. Sean Bennett (East Moriches) continued his dominance at the face-off X, winning 17 of 19 draws for a 91.4 win percentage in the young season.
Steve Gartelman (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded 6 saves in his second start as a Saint, as the Limestone defenders stymied the FSC shooters.
The Saints will return to action on Sunday, March 7 when they travel to Severna Park, Md. to take on second ranked LeMoyne College at 12:00 PM. Florida Southern will travel to N.C. on Sunday to face Queens University of Charlotte at 12:00 PM.
