St. Leo, Catawba Share Deep South Awards

Wingate, N.C. - Saint Leo University won two of
the three weekly Deep South Conference Awards in the second week of
voting, league officials announced Monday. Catawba College took the
other nod.
Saint Leo senior attack Joe Guerin (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) is
this week's Offensive Player of the Week. Catawba sophomore
goalkeeper Michael Pecchia (Coquitlam, B.C., Canada) is the
Defensive Player of the Week, while SLU freshman midfielder Ty
Trombley (Penn Yann, N.Y.) was selected Freshman of the Week.
Guerin racked up five goals and an assist for six points overall as
the Lions defeated Rollins (Fla.) College 14-5 Saturday. Last year,
Guerin had 27 goals and 15 assists for Saint Leo. He was named to
the DSC All-Tournament team.
Pecchia had a huge game against number one C.W. Post, recording 18
saves and a .667 save percentage. Post edged Catawba 9-5. Pecchia
had 11 saves and a .630 save percentage in a 16-8 regional victory
over Pfeiffer University.
Trombley made good on 10-of-13 face-off attempts in the Rollins
victory. He was playing in place of the Lions' standard face-off
person. Trombley added three ground balls against the RC Tars.
