Duke's Deemer Class Named Epoch/LM Player of Week
"Class is in session."
ESPN announcer and Lacrosse Magazine contributor Eamon McAnaney put it best Saturday, summarizing senior midfielder Deemer Class' seven-goal, two-assist performance in Duke's 16-15 win over Syracuse in overtime. Class is the Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week.
Class did most of his damage in the second half, as the Blue Devils, who were stunned in overtime by Air Force earlier in the week, came back from a five-goal deficit. The Orange had no answer for the two-time All-American, who wears the same jersey number (10) previously worn by the late Duke midfielder and U.S. Army Ranger Jimmy Regan, whom the team honored as part of Military Appreciation Day.
Class' seven goals were a career high, surpassing the six he scored against Syracuse in 2014.
"Going into this game, we said to each other, let's just go all in — truly all in, really sell out for each other," Class said. "That made the difference. We had been working hard all year, but there's definitely something missing at times."
Class certainly wasn't missing Saturday and he hasn't missed much this season. He leads the Blue Devils with 33 goals.
