Oberbeck Sparks No. 12 Yale Over Providence 8-5
from press release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Dylan Levings scooped
up the ball off the opening face-off, sprinted toward his offensive
end and got the ball to Mark Glicini for a goal seven seconds into
the game. Yale never looked back during its 8-5 non-league lacrosse
victory over Providence at the Ray Treacy Track Complex.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 5-3 overall, took a midweek break from Ivy League play by taking the 90-minute trip North. The Elis remained perfect (7-0) against the Friars in the series.
Conrad Oberbeck had three goals and five points and J.W. McGovern had a pair of goals and three points while goalie Eric Natale posted 15 saves.
McGovern and Oberbeck followed with goals in the first to give Yale a 3-0 lead. It became a five-goal advantage on just six shots by the visitors before the stellar Bulldog defense allowed a tally.
The Friars responded to the big first-quarter deficit with three straight goals to take a 5-3 game into halftime, but that's as close as they could get.
Oberbeck's third goal of the game in the third quarter ended the home team's scoring streak and started the push to put this one away. The Elis, who travel to Dartmouth this Saturday, also got goals from Brandon Mangan and Shane Thornton.
Levings finished with nine wins in 17 face-offs to go along with five ground balls.
