Marist Earns First MAAC Win Topping Quinnipiac

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's lacrosse team (3-4, 1-1 MAAC) earned its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory of the season with a 13-8 commanding win over Quinnipiac (2-4, 1-1 MAAC). Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with four goals and four assists for a total of eight points. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) had another solid performance in the net, posting 16 saves.

Junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) tallied three goals and added an assist. Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and junior Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.) netted two goals apiece while Radin dished out an assist. Sophomores Dominic Montemurro (Kinds Park, N.Y) andDillon Walker (Wawa, Pa.) contributed one goal each. Junior Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) and freshman Connor O'Neill (Sayville, N.Y.) had one assist apiece.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bobcats took a quick 1-0 lead with 14:06 to play in the second quarter. Marist responded with four straight goals, including two by Recor and one each from Walker and Begley, to take a 4-1 lead with 11:18 to go in the second.

Quinnipiac scored at the 9:08 mark to pull within two but it was short lived as Montemurro won the ensuing face-off and drove to the net to score just seven seconds later to put his Red Foxes up 5-2 with nine minutes to play.

The Bobcats ended the first half with a goal to hold a 5-3 deficit heading into halftime.

Begley opened up the third quarter with his second goal of the game to push Marist ahead by three. Quinnipiac's Diehl scored back-to-back goals and Webster made it a trio with a third Bobcat goal to tie the game at six to close the third quarter.

Three straight Recor to Joka goals gave Marist a 9-6 lead at the 8:01 mark in the fourth quarter. But the Red Foxes weren't done yet as Recor and Radin would net two more goals for Marist, marking five unanswered scores. Quinnipiac's Sagl managed to break up the scoring streak with his second goal of the game to trail Marist 11-7 in the final five minutes of play.

Recor and Radin netted back-to-back goals once again to claim a 13-7 lead with 2:41 to play in the game. Keenan snuck in one last goal for Quinnipiac with five seconds to play but time ran out on the Bobcats as Marist defeated the MAAC newcomers, 13-8.

The Red Foxes return to action in just three days as they host Brown on Tuesday, Mar. 25. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
