Live Blog: Yale Opens with Visit from St. John's

After losing four-year defensive stalwarts Peter Johnson and Michael McCormack, Yale figured to be a more offensive-oriented team in 2014. But that plan suffered a setback when Canadian finisher Deron Dempster did not report to the team in January.
The Bulldogs were going to have a difficult time outscoring St. John's, anyway. With Tewaaraton candidate Kieran McArdle, distributor Kevin Cernuto and oft-overlooked Colin Keegan, the Red Storm boasts the best attack unit outside of Albany.
So on the surface, this game pits Yale's expected weakness against St. John's overwhelming strength. Faceoff man Dylan Levings needs to make this a possession game for the Bulldogs, who were a whisper from making their first NCAA final four appearance since 1990.
Yale has yet to play a game in the young 2014 season, owing to the late start that all Ivy League teams have to work around, practice-wise. St. John's is 1-0 so far, having rallied for a two-goal win over Holy Cross in its opener, with all three attackman netting hat-tricks and a combined 17 points in the win.
McArdle earned the Big East Conference's Offensive Player of the Week nod for the effort in the win.
