Wagner Names Browning Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

from Press Release

Staten Island, NY – Former University of Vermont assistant men's lacrosse coach Ryan Browning, who has also served as an assistant at Virginia, Goucher and Washington College, has been named assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Wagner College, it was announced today by Seahawk head coach Matt Poskay.

Browning becomes the first full-time assistant men's lacrosse coach at Wagner since the program was established in 2000.

In addition to his coaching experience, Browning enjoyed an outstanding playing career, competing as a defenseman on Division III National Championship teams in 2007 and 2008 at Salisbury University in Maryland.

At Wagner, Browning will work extensively with the Seahawk defense, while also playing a major role working with the faceoff unit. As Vermont's defensive coach in 2013, he coordinated the nation's 13th nationally man-down defensive unit at 72%.

Prior to his one season at Vermont, Browning spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as a volunteer assistant at the University of Virginia, where he worked with the defense and faceoff unit. The Cavaliers ranked 11th scoring defense 8.63 per game 2012 and ranked 15th in faceoffs at 54%, which is the best mark at UVA since 2009. While at Virginia, Browning coached eight players who earned All-American honors by the U.S. Lacrosse Association.

Prior to that, he spent the 2010 season as an assistant at Goucher College after beginning his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant at Washington College.

"I am very excited to add Ryan Browning to the Wagner's men's lacrosse program," said Poskay "Ryan has extensive coaching experience, particularly on the defensive side, possesses tremendous knowledge of all facets of defensive play and will be a tireless recruiter for us.

"He is steeped in the game of lacrosse, having lived and worked in the Baltimore, Maryland area so long, and has played and coached under some terrific minds," Poskay added. "Ryan is going to play a significant role as we continue to build our program."

A resident of Cockeysville, MD, Browning earned a history degree from Salisbury in 2008 following an outstanding prep career at Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore.
