Jacksonville Gets Over .500 for First Time Ever

from press release

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Jacksonville kept its perfect Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record intact on Saturday by picking up a 10-7 win at Manhattan’s Gaelic Park in men’s lacrosse action.

The Dolphins 2-0 in the MAAC and have now won three of the last four overall while improving to 4-3 which marks the first time in the program’s four-year history they have been over .500 at any point during the season.

Senior Cam Mann (Hamilton, Ont.) and junior Conor Igoe (Columbus, Ohio) had three goals each to lead JU which held a 43-26 edge in groundballs and forced the Jaspers into 20 turnovers.

The Dolphins never trailed in the game after Igoe scored less than a minute after the opening faceoff. Manhattan (2-7; 0-1) would tie the game on three separate occasions, but each time JU had an answer.

Once the Jaspers tied the game at 7-7 with 6:47 left in the third quarter, juniorDavid Goldman (Baltimore, Md.) put the Dolphins ahead to stay on the ensuing possession. Igoe added another goal at the end of the third quarter  and one more in the fourth as the JU defense held Manhattan off the scoreboard the final 21 minutes of play.

Junior Pete DeLuca (Millersville, Pa.) made 11 saves in goal and had a team high six ground balls for the Dolphins.

JU returns to action at home next Saturday against Detroit at 1:00 pm.
