Hartford Welcomes 10 Newcomers

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford men's lacrosse coach Peter Lawrence and his coaching staff welcomed 10 newcomers to the Hawks' roster for the upcoming 2012 season, a class that is headlined by nine high school standouts and a two-time NJCAA Academic All-American honoree. The Hawks' Class of 2015, which consists of three attackmen, four midfielders, one long stick midfielder, one defenseman and a goalie, will join 30 returning student-athletes as the squad looks to repeat as America East Tournament champions in 2012.
Matt Carroll (East Northport, N.Y.), Gattett Dollard (Albany, N.Y.), James Loughlin (Hanover, Mass.), Brian Monks (Bellmore, N.Y.), Jimmy Murphy (Duxbury, Mass.), Kevin O'Shea (Dix Hills, N.Y.), Dan Pierce (Rochester, N.Y.), Ty Schuldt (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Christopher St. George (Marblehead, Mass.) and Rob Zecher (Merrick, N.Y.) are the newest additions to the 2012 roster, as announced by Lawrence.
The Hawks are coming off their most successful season in program history after finishing the campaign with an 11-7 overall record and capturing the program's first-ever America East Tournament championship while earning its first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in 2011.
Matt Carroll · East Northport, N.Y. · Attack
Carroll, a native of East Northport, N.Y., attended Northport High School where he was a four-year member of the Tigers' attack unit. A team captain in 2011, Carroll was named to Suffolk's All-County squad and was tabbed to the Division I Team after tallying 66 points (30 goals, 36 assists) while leading his team to the Suffolk County Class A quarterfinals. Additionally, Carroll etched his name into Northport High School's record book when he finished his career as the 12th best scorer in school history, accumulating 73 goals and 64 assists for 127 career points. Carroll also spent five seasons with the Tigers' wrestling squad. Carroll is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Garrett Dollard · Albany, N.Y. · Midfield
Dollard comes to Hartford by way of Onondaga Community College where he played two seasons of lacrosse and led the Lazers to two-straight National Junior College Athletic Association Championships, two consecutive Region 3 Championships as well a pair of Mid-State Athletic Conference titles in the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. More impressively, Dollard, a midfielder, earned a spot on the NJSCAA Academic All-American list twice during his career at Onondaga. During his two-year tenure, he combined for 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 career points. Prior to his stint at Onondaga, Dollard was a product of Colonie High School where he finished his four-year career as the program's most prolific scorer. A first-team Suburban Council All-Star as a senior in 2009, he fired in 54 goals and assisted on 37 others to emerge as the program's leading scorer with 173 goals and 131 assists. A three-year team captain, Dollard helped lead the Garnet Raiders to their second consecutive Gold Division title in the Suburban Council as a senior and was a two-time The Record All-Area lacrosse team selection during his career. Dollard is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.
James Loughlin · Hanover, Mass. · Midfield
Loughlin played lacrosse at Milton Academy before attending Hanover High School for one season. During his tenure at Milton Academy, the 5-11, 180 pound midfielder led the squad in scoring in 2009 and was named a Prep School League All-Star. The Hanover, Mass. native was also voted to the All-ISL First team that season. Most impressively, Loughlin was tabbed a New England Under Armour All-Star in 2009. At Hanover, he garnered Patriot League All-Star accolades and was also a member of the Indians' football team. Loughlin is enrolled in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions.
Brian Monks · Bellmore, N.Y. · Defense
Monks, a decorated two sport athlete from Mepham High School, is a 6-0, 190-pound defender out of Bellmore, N.Y. A two-time B1 All-Conference honoree as both a sophomore and junior, Monks was deemed the Pirates' most valuable player at the conclusion of his senior season in 2011. In addition to lacrosse, Monks was also a five-year member of the wrestling team at Mepham where he racked up all-conference accolades as a freshman in 2008 and a junior in 2010. Monks is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.
Jimmy Murphy · Duxbury, Mass. · Attack
Murphy, a 5-10, 155-pound attackman, was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and soccer at Brewster Academy. As a senior captain in 2011, Murphy led the Bobcats to an impressive overall record of 15-1 while helping the team take home its sixth Lakes Region Championship in the last eight years including its second-straight league title. After netting 13 goals and dishing out 13 assist for 26 points, Murphy was selected to the NNELL All-League First Team in 2011 and, in 2010, he was tabbed honorable mention by the league. Murphy is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.
Kevin O'Shea · Dix Hills, N.Y. · Attack
O'Shea arrives at Hartford by way of Half Hollow Hills High School West where he earned four varsity letters in both lacrosse and football. A native of Dix Hills, N.Y., O'Shea joins the Hawks' attack unit at 5-8 and 165 pounds. At Half Hollow Hills West, he graduated as the all-time career point leader, was a three-time all-county lacrosse honoree and was also an All-Division Second Team pick in football. In addition, O'Shea appeared in Inside Lacrosse's 2011 Post-Graduate Top-10 Recruits, taking the eighth spot in the publication's annual rankings. O'Shea is enrolled in the College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture.
Dan Pierce · Rochester, N.Y. · LSM/Defense
Pierce comes out of Rochester, N.Y. where he played four years of varsity lacrosse at Brighton High School. At 6-1 and 185 pounds, Pierce poured in 30 goals and added 13 assists for 43 career points as a long stick midfielder and defender. A four-time all-league honoree who was tabbed first team defense as both a junior and senior, he was also twice named D&C All-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention in 2010 and 2011 and brought home All Section Second Team accolades during his senior year in 2011. In addition, Pierce earned a spot on the Rochester US Lacrosse Senior All-Star game roster at the conclusion of his high school career. Pierce is enrolled in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions.
Ty Schuldt · Yorktown Heights, N.Y. · Midfield
Schuldt, a United States Lacrosse All-American in 2011, arrives at Hartford by way of Yorktown High School in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. A two-sport athlete at Yorktown, Schuldt played three years of lacrosse for the Huskers, amassing 96 goals and 28 assists for 124 career points, while leading the team to a pair of Section I Class A championships in 2009 and 2011. As a senior in 2011, the 5-11, 180-pound midfielder was tabbed MSG All-Area Second Team, a squad that consists of players from the tri-state area, after leading the team in goals (48) and ground balls (70). That season, the Huskers advanced to the Class A state semifinals and finished the campaign ranked 29th nationally in laxpower's rankings. Schuldt also found success on the football field where as a two-year member of the squad, he helped the Huskers to a 2011 Bowl championship. Schuldt is enrolled in Hillyer College.
Christopher St. George · Marblehead, Mass. · Goalie
St. George comes to Hartford from Marblehead, Mass. where he was a four-year goalie for the lacrosse team at Cushing Academy. A two-year captain, St. George was named to the Northern New England Lacrosse All-League team and was featured in the East vs. West New England All-Star as a senior in 2011. In addition, he earned Cushing Academy's Finest Contribution Award in 2011 and received the Defensive Player Award the previous year. St. George also played three years of both soccer and hockey and one season of football. St. George is enrolled in Hillyer College.
Rob Zecher · Merrick, N.Y. · Midfield
Zecher is a 5-11, 180-pound midfielder who played four years of lacrosse at Long Island's Holy Trinity High School. As a senior in 2011, Zecher captained the team and led the Titans to a New York State Catholic High School AA title, the school's first-ever state championship. In addition, the Merrick, N.Y. native was a four-year member of Holy Trinity's football team and spent one season with the school's wrestling squad. Zecher is enrolled in the Barney School of Business.
