Harvard Downs Denver in San Francisco Lacrosse Classic

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Ryan Stevens and
Daniel Eipp had hat tricks, while goalie Harry Krieger made four
saves in more than 45 minutes of action to lead the Harvard men's
lacrosse team to a 19-14 exhibition victory over Denver before
3,500 fans at the San Francisco Fall Lacrosse Classic Saturday
evening.
Jeff Cohen scored two goals and handed out an assist, while Carl
Zimmerman, Matt Scalise and Alex White also knotched two goals
apiece in the victory. Keegan Michel grabbed a team-high seven
ground balls and won 9-of-13 faceoffs for the Crimson.
After falling behind, 3-1, early on, the Crimson tallied eight
unanswered goals in the first half and held a 9-3 edge at halftime.
During the 8-0 run, Stevens scored on a man-up opportunity, while
Zimmernan netted both of his goals in the game as Harvard broke the
game wide open.
In the second half, the Pioneers earned the first two goals, but
Harvard responded with a six-goal run, led by Stevens and Eipp who
each scored twice, including another man-up tally by Stevens. As
the game moved to the fourth, the Crimson offense continued its
stellar play, as Scalise scored twice, and Harvard led by as many
as 11 goals, 19-8, with 4:45 remaining in regulation.
Harvard led 19-10 after four quarters, but then the two teams
played a short overtime period. Denver netted all four goals in the
extra session, as the Crimson earned the 19-14 victory.
The Crimson outshot the Pioneers, 55-42, including 15-3 in the
second quarter. Harvard also led in ground balls, 38-33, and
faceoffs, 22-14. The Crimson went 2-of-4 on man-up chances and was
a perfect 18-of-18 on clear attempts.
Freshman Eric Adamson (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) led Denver with three goals off seven shots in his collegiate debut, while senior Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario), Cameron Flint (Georgetown, Ontario), sophomore Paul Danko (Towson, Md.), senior Patrick Rogers (Portland, Ore.) and freshman Garret Holst (Fishers, Ind.) all added two goals apiece.
