Tabb, Georgetown Seniors Finish on High Note

WASHINGTON -- Senior face-off specialist Brian Tabb (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) became the second player in Georgetown men's lacrosse history to eclipse the 400 face-off win mark during the third quarter, then scored his first career goal with nine seconds left, as the Hoyas (7-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) defeated Rutgers (6-9, 1-5 BIG EAST) 13-8 on Senior Night at Multi-Sport Field.
Tabb won six-of-seven face-offs in a decisive third quarter that saw the Hoyas break a 3-3 halftime tie, outscoring the Scarlet Knights 5-1 to deliver the game to the Blue & Gray. Tabb finished the game 12-for-21 at the face-off X, giving him 403 career wins, to finish his career behind only Andy Corno on the Hoyas all-time list. Senior midfielder Zack Angel (Park Hall, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) scored two goals in his final collegiate game, while goalie Matt Winter (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) earned the win making six saves. CT Fisher (Chevy Chase, Md./Landon) also made five saves during the fourth quarter in his final game.
Junior attack Brian Casey had his second consecutive four point game, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist, while junior attack Zac Guy (Tully, N.Y./Tully) had four points with two goals and two assists.
The Hoyas fell behind early in the first quarter, as Scott Klimchak scored two goals within the game's first five minutes to take a quick 2-0 lead. Casey put the Hoyas on the board at the 6:13 mark in the first quarter to cut the lead in half, as GU trailed, 2-1 at the end of the first.
Klimchak scored his third goal of the game with 8:41 remaining in the first half, giving Rutgers a 3-1 lead, before the Hoyas rallied to end the half. Sophomore midfielder John Wujciak (Essex Fells, N.J./Delbarton) scored his second goal of the season with 6:22 left in the half. Junior midfielder Dan McKinney (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored with 2:18 left, tying the score at three going into halftime.
Angel started the third quarter rally, scoring on the assist from Guy at the 13:39 mark in the third quarter. Guy intercepted a clearing pass and beat the goalie at the 9:59 mark and Casey followed with an unassisted goal less than a minute later to put GU in front, 6-3. Guy scored his second goal of the game, dodging his way to the crease, before senior Francis McDonough (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) ripped a shot past the goalie to give GU an 8-3 lead.
Rutgers ended the Hoyas 7-0 run, scoring the next two goals, but senior Brian Will (Potomac, Md./Bullis) and Jason McFadden (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) answered with to straight goals in the fourth quarter to open a five-goal advantage, 10-5.
Casey scored one more goal to give him four three-goal games on the season, as the team's traded goals over the last three minutes, with Tabb scoring his first career goal on an assist from Dan McKinney with nine seconds left on the clock to seal a 13-8 victory over Rutgers.
NOTES: The victory clinches a winning season, as the Blue & Gray have never finished under .500 in the 23 years Head Coach Dave Urick has been on the Hilltop.
