from press release

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team ended a 14-game losing streak with their first win of the season against VMI, on Saturday. Junior Kyle Williams and sophomore Ryan McGee each added three goals in the victory.

The Hawks outscored the Keydets, 4-2, in the first quarter to take control of the game. After an early VMI goal, Williams, McGee and junior Kyle Mahoney put together a three-goal run to take the lead and never look back. A late first quarter goal by sophomore Pat Townsend at 1:01 added the Hawks fourth goal.

The second quarter ended with the same outcome of 4-2. Williams matched a VMI goal to keep a three-goal lead early in quarter. Two man-up goals by freshman Michael Dougherty and McGee built the lead to 7-4 before McGee netted his third of the day.

Saint Joseph's came out and played hard-nosed defense to hold the Keydets scoreless in the second half. Townsend and senior Bobby Hurley each added goal to take a 10-4 lead into the fourth. Williams posted his third goal of the game while sophomore Johnny Simanski scored his first of the season to seal the win.

Goalkeeper Griffin Ferrigan made six saves on the afternoon in net.

The Hawks went 16-of-19 in clear attempts, aided by a perfect three-for-three effort in the first and second quarter.

The Hawks held the margin in shots, 34-16, and turned the ball over only 10 times to VMI's 18.
