DU Downs Pros in Colorado Showcase

DENVER – Led by a four-goal performance from junior Alex Demopoulos (Canton, Conn.), the University of Denver men's lacrosse defeated the Pro Players 20-15 in the second annual Colorado Lacrosse Showcase at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Along with Demopoulos' four goals, senior Todd Baxter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and junior Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario) finished the day with three goals apiece, while senior Andrew Lay (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore Hayden Schuette (Encinitas, Calif.) added two goals each.
Also scoring for the Pioneers were sophomore Chase Carraro (Louisville, Ky.), junior Cal Kennedy (Concord, Mass.) and freshmen Jeremy Noble (Orangeville, Ontario), Paul Danko (Towson, Md.), Harrison Archer (Washington, D.C.) and John Zurlo (Bernardsville, N.J.).
Starting in goal and making seven saves was freshman Jamie Faus (Lakeville, Conn.), who played 25 minutes and allowed only four goals. Also making appearances for the Pioneers between the pipes was junior Zander Buteux (Madison, N.J.) who made seven saves, junior Troy Orzech (Franktown, Colo.) who made nine saves and freshman Erik Carter (Tucson, Ariz.) who made two saves.
Brian Langtry led the Pro Players with three goals, while Josh Sims, Cooper Kehoe and Ryan Cranston all added two goals apiece.
The Pioneers will announce their 2011 schedule this coming week.
