Delaware Set to Face 'Star-Studded' Alums

NEWARK, Del. - The 2011 University of Delaware men's lacrosse team will face a tough opponent Friday evening, Oct. 15, as the current crop of Blue Hens host a star-studded UD Alumni Team in an exhibition game.
The game will be held on the UDâPractice Fields behind Delaware Field House at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The Alumni squad will be loaded with the likes of former Blue Hen All-Americans John Grant, Alex Smith, Dan Deckelbaum, Martin Cahill, Chris Collins, and John Ciliberto. Smith led the Chesapeake Bayhawks to the Major League Lacrosse professional outdoor title last August while Grant is among the all-time scoring leaders in MLLâhistory and Cahill was a standout for Chicago this past season.
Grant, the 1999 National Collegiate Player of the Year, and Smith, the all-time NCAAâfaceoff leader and a three-time All-American, also competed in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships this past summer in England with Smith's U.S. team winning the title over Grant's Canadian squad.
The alumni squad will include attackmen Grant, three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection Cam Howard ('08), Nick LoManto ('09), AndyâHipple ('05), Marty Kupprion ('07), and 2007 NCAAâFinal Four squad leading scorer Adam Zuder-Havens ('07).
At midfield, the squad will include Cahill ('10), Deckelbaum ('07), Jay Motta ('01), Bryan Tingle ('05), J.J. Moran ('08), Drew Turner ('08), Vince Giordano ('08), Brett Manney ('08), and Andrew Unthank ('10). Deckelbaum, Moran, Turner, Giordano, and Manney were all members of the 2007 Blue Hen NCAAâFinal Four squad.
The defensive unit will include Ciliberto ('00), Bryan Barrett ('00), Keevin Galbraith ('07), Evan Crowther-Washburn ('08) Jeff Wasson ('03), FrankâHopkins ('06), Paul Rodriguez ('06), Brian Calabrese ('07), Sean Kostkowski ('09), and Rob Smith '07). Former Blue Hen All-American and assistant coach Chris Collins ('06) will be the goalkeeper while Smith will handle the faceoffs.
Head coach Bob Shillinglaw's squad, which captured the Colonial Athletic Association title and advanced to the NCAAâTournament a year ago, returns six of its top 10 scorers as well as All-CAAâgoalkeeper Noah Fossner this spring. The Hens have captured two CAAâtitles in the last four years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament four times since 2005.
The Blue Hens will host a four-team fall scrimmage tournament on Oct. 24 with Ohio State, Siena, and Navy.
