Bell Leads Villanova Past Providence

In addition to the victory, Villanova also celebrated the final regular-season home game of eight graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony. During their four year careers, the senior class has collected a 37-24 overall record (.607) while going 19-7 in home games (.731) since 2007.
Adding another home victory to their resumes, the Wildcats got off to a quick start in the first quarter with Bell tallying two goals at the 11:48 and 6:37 marks to begin the game. Just under three minutes later, sophomore Jack Rice (Baltimore, Md.) netted a score from classmate Will Casertano (Millbrook, N.Y.) to close out the stanza, 3-0, in favor of the Wildcats.
Providence found themselves on the board in the second quarter off a man-up opportunity when Andrew Barton found the back of the net off a Jake Nolan assist. It would mark the first of five goals from man-up chances during the course of the afternoon by the Friars.
Villanova would respond just 10 seconds later at the 11:56 mark when Casertano would increase the VU lead at 4-1 off a great feed from Nick Doherty (Bernardsville, N.J.), while Vigilante would round out the half to put VU up, 5-1, going into the locker rooms.
At the break, Villanova would lead in shots, 16-7, while PC committed 11 turnovers to Villanova's seven.
The third quarter saw the Wildcats and Friars capture a combined eight goals, with Vigilante connecting for Villanova's first two at the 12:06 and 9:05 marks. Doherty, Casertano and Bell would add scores with 7:16, 3:05 and :07 remaining on the clock while PC's Evan Helda, Jake Nolan and Barton captured scores for the Friars. At the end of the quarter Villanova posted a 10-4 lead over PC.
Providence would go on to outscore VU 3-1 in the fourth as Steve Lydon, Sean Wright and Helda all found the back of the cage in the final minutes. VU's Rice would capture his 28th goal of the season at the 6:54 mark off a C.J. Small assist to round out the Wildcat scoring, finishing the game with an 11-7 win.
Villanova led Providence in shots (40-22), ground balls (36-21) and face-offs (17-21), while PC would dominate on EMO's, going 5-6 for the afternoon.
Defensively, sophomore Billy Hurley (Morristown, N.J.) captured seven saves in the victory while PC's Jake Goodelman and Chris Dzwilewski combined for 13 stops in the defeat.
Villanova will be on the road for their final game of the regular season when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown on May 7th. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Multi-Sport Field.
