DENVER -- University of Denver men's lacrosse sophomore Chase Carraro (Louisville, Ky.) scored three times and won 14-of-20 faceoffs, leading the No. 6 Pioneers to an 11-6 win over Ohio State in front of a season-high 3,372 Saturday afternoon in the Eighth Annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown at INVESCO Field at Mile-High.
"Ohio State gave us some challenges, but we were able to make adjustments and played really well on both ends today," said head coach Bill Tierney. "This was a good team victory and one of our best overall performances of the year."
Sophomore Cameron Flint (Georgetown, Ontario) added three goals and an assist for the Pioneers (9-2, 4-0 ECAC). Senior Todd Baxter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored twice and tallied two assists and junior Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario) added two goals, an assist and grabbed five ground balls for the Pioneers.

After the Buckeye goal, Denver scored three unanswered goals, one from Flint and two from Matthews who is now twelve points shy of DU's all-time Division I scoring record. Ohio State scored midway through the second session and the Pioneers led 5-3 at intermission.
Denver opened up the second half with five unanswered goals, the first coming from Flint just over a minute into the third quarter. Denver added goals from Baxter, another from Flint and two from Carraro, taking a 10-3 before the Buckeyes scored with 1:07 left in the third quarter.
The Pioneers continued their quick scoring when Carraro tucked one away five seconds into the fourth quarter, DU's quickest quarter-opening goal of the year, to give DU an 11-4 lead. Ohio State scored twice before the end of the game, but Denver left INVESCO Field with an 11-6 win.
