MAAC Daddy: Mount St. Mary's Routs Conference Foe Jacksonville

EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Cody Lehrer scored a
season-high six goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past Jacksonville,
16-9, on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
Lehrer, who entered the game with two goals this season, scored
four of his six goals on extra man opportunities. The junior
attack led the Mount with 48 goals last season.
Midfielder Daniel Stranix chipped in a career-best four points on
two goals and two assists while midfielder Eric Ososki added two
goals and an assist in the victory. Junior Bryant Schmidt
dished out three assists while twin brother Brett had a goal and
two assists for a three-point day.
Andrew Scalley tallied a goal and an assist for the Mountaineers
(2-2), keeping alive a pair of streaks. Scalley has scored a
goal in each of the Mount's past 13 games while he has recorded at
least one point in 21 consecutive games.
Anthony Golden, Christian Kellett, Mike Adkins and Mark Burns also
added goals in the victory. Face-off specialist Ben Trapp won
19-of-29 face-offs in the game while picking up a game-high 11
ground balls. Goalkeeper T.C. DiBartolo made 11 saves to earn
the victory.
Owen Green and Cameron Mann each scored twice for Jacksonville
while Max Gurowski had a goal and four assists in the game.
Goalkeeper Peter DeLuca made nine saves while allowing 12 goals in
three quarters of work while Brendan Niklason had four saves with
four goals allowed in one quarter of play.
Jacksonville (2-4) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Green just 1:19
into the game. The Mountaineers evened the scored when Ososki
stole a clear attempt right on the crease, scoring into an empty
cage just under a minute later. Green and Bobby Stockton
tallied consecutive goals to give the Dolphins a 3-1 lead, but
Ososki and Lehrer had back-to-back scores for a 3-3 tie.
After Gurowski scored with 3:20 left in the opening quarter for a
4-3 Jacksonville lead, the Mount took control by scoring the next
five goals in the contest. Stranix started the scoring run
with 1:47 left in the opening quarter and Adkins converted a Bryant
Schmidt pass to give the Mount a 5-4 lead after one quarter of
play.
Burns, Stranix and Kellett rounded out the run, giving the Mount an
8-4 lead midway through the second quarter. After a goal by
Jacksonville's Robert Moore, Lehrer tallied a man-up goal with 1:19
left in the half to give the Mount a 9-5 lead at the break.
The Mountaineers scored three of the first four goals of the third
quarter to stretch the lead to 12-6. Lehrer scored a pair in
that stretch with Brett Schmidt tallying the other Mount
score. The Dolphins got back into the game on goals from Mann
and T.J. Kenary late in the quarter to cut the Mount lead to 12-8
after three quarters of play.
Golden and Mann exchanged goals before the Mount closed the game
with three consecutive extra-man goals for the 16-9 victory.
Mount St. Mary's outshot Jacksonville, 46-38, in the game while
holding a 41-33 advantage in ground balls. The Mount made 14
turnovers in the contest and went 5-for-5 on extra-man
opportunities in the contest.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, March 19, at Drexel at
5:00 p.m.
