Crowley, McBride Lead Stony Brook Over UD

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Seniors Kevin Crowley (New
Westminster, British Columbia and Jordan McBride (New Westminster,
British Columbia) each scored three goals, as the #6 Stony Brook
men's lacrosse team topped Delaware, 14-9, at Kenneth P. LaValle
Stadium on Saturday.
Crowley also added three assists, upping his career point total to
190. He's just 12 points shy of breaking the school's all-time
record, held by Jason Cappadoro (201). McBride, who's Division I's
active leading goal scorer with 141, has 23 goals on just 29 shots
in four games against the Blue Hens.
Senior Tom Compitello (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and junior Russ Bonanno
(Seaford, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and an assist apiece.
Senior Rob Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) made 11 saves, seven in the
first half, and senior Adam Rand (Niantic, Conn.) won 13-of-24
face-offs and had a game-high 10 ground balls. Junior Kyle Moeller
(South Setauket, N.Y.) had four ground balls and two caused
turnovers
"I think we took a big step forward today," head coach Rick Sowell
said. "Delaware has the ability to score goals quickly, and I was
pleased at how we responded. This is a really good win for us."
Delaware, which scored the first goal of each quarter, was held
scoreless for stretches of 13:56, 14:16 and 10:22 of game
action.
Stony Brook leads the all-time series over Delaware, 6-2, and has
won five straight in the series.
The Seawolves answered an early goal from the Blue Hens with five
straight to end the first quarter. Senior Kyle Belton (Delta,
British Columbia) capped the flurry with an unassisted goal at 3:54
of the quarter.
McBride scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Crowley, as the Seawolves led 6-2. Stony Brook scored each of its
three second-quarter goals following Delaware goals. Crowley and
Compitello also scored during the quarter, as Stony Brook led 8-4
going into the half.
Delaware's Grant Kaleikau scored 13 seconds into the third quarter
to cut the deficit to three. A Stony Brook penalty following the
Kaleikau goal gave Delaware a man-up situation and Nick Elsmo found
John Mills, making it an 8-6 game just 31 seconds later. But Stony
Brook had an answer again, scoring three straight to end the
quarter. Goals from Bonanno, Compitello and Crowley made it
11-6.
After Andrew Rohacik made it 11-7, Kaleikau found Eric Smith for
back-to-back goals, as Delaware, once again, trailed by two, 11-9.
But just as the Seawolves did it the third quarter for the final
14:16, the door was shut on the Blue Hens in the fourth.
Senior Timmy Trenkle (Commack, N.Y.) found McBride on the door step
for the goal at 8:27 of the fourth quarter. Junior Robbie Campbell
(Delta, British Columbia) scored nearly a minute later from eight
yards out. McBride capped the day's scoring, taking a pass from
Crowley to making it 14-9.
Stony Brook will go for three straight wins on Tuesday afternoon at
St. John's at 3:00 p.m. The Seawolves defeated the Red Storm, 21-6,
last season.
