Dartmouth Win Its Second in as Many Days

from press release

DARIEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team played for the second straight day and won in a neutral site contest against Mercer on Sunday, 17-10. Multiple Big Green players scored to improve the team's record to 2-1 on the season. Mercer fell to 0-6 overall in the program's first season of men's lacrosse.

The Bears scored the first goal in the contest, 50 seconds into the first period, but Dartmouth took control after that. Senior Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) tied the contest with his fifth goal of the season with 13 minutes remaining in the first, and Junior Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) gave the Big Green their first lead of the contest two minutes later. Mercer tied the game midway through the first, but Dartmouth scored three more goals in the frame to take a 5-2 lead into the second period.

In the second, only two goals were scored, one by each team. Freshman Mike Olentine (Princeton, N.J.) netted the Big Green's lone goal for his second of the game, which marked his first two career goals. The third period saw both teams score three goals, and they headed into the fourth period with the Big Green leading, 9-6.

Dartmouth controlled the fourth period, scoring eight goals to seal the victory. Junior Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) scored three of the eight goals and totaled five in the game. The five goals were a player high for the team this season and Tunney's first goals of the year. Freshman Jeff Perkins (Dallas, Texas) scored three times in the final period for his first three goals of the season.

The Big Green have a quick turnaround because they play at Holy Cross on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
