Manny Leads UMass Rally Over Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The #16 UMass men's
lacrosse team outscored Hartford 9-3 in the second half and ran
away from the Hawks, 14-10 on Saturday at Al-Marzook Field.
Sophomore Will Manny scored all four of his goals in the decisive
half while Art Kell (8 points) had five of his six assists in the
final 30 minutes. UMass is now 2-0 and will face Ohio State next
Saturday at Garber Field. The Buckeyes upset No. 3 North Carolina
on Saturday, 13-8. Hartford is 0-1.
Down, 7-5 at halftime, UMass came out blazing in the third quarter
as the Minutemen scored six of the periods seven goals to take an
11-8 lead after the third quarter. Ryan Hantverk (3 goals) put
UMass ahead for good at 9-8 with 7:06 left in the period. Manny had
tied the game at 7-7 on the first of five feeds from Kell with 8:27
left in the third. Manny then took passes from Kell on two more
late goals for the three-goal bulge at the end of the third
quarter.
After Hartford's Carter Bender opened the fourth with a goal 39
seconds into the period, Anthony Biscardi scored his first of two
fourth-quarter goals for a 12-9 lead.
The Minutemen iced the game as Kell was the feeder two more times
in the final 6:01 with passes to Manny and Biscardi.
Hartford ripped off four goals in the span of 2:12 to take a 4-2
lead at the end of the first quarter. That lead expanded to 5-2
before Hantverk stooped the bleeding with back-to-back goals in the
second quarter.
After Hartford regained a three-goal edge, Kell scored the final
goal of the final half for a 7-5 Hawks lead at intermission.
The Minutemen jumped out a 2-0 lead on goals by Kell and Kyle
Smith.
In net, Tim McCormack made eight saves for UMass
UMass returns to Garber Field next Saturday, the Minutemen will
host Ohio State (3-0), which knocked off No. 3 North Carolina on
Saturday, 13-8
