UVA-Terp Game Moved to Scott Stadium
from press release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men's lacrosse game on April 2 against ACC foe Maryland is being moved to Scott Stadium. The contest will still begin at 12 p.m., and will be televised live on ESPNU.
Approximately 35 minutes following the completion of the lacrosse game the Virginia football team's annual Orange-Blue spring game will take place in Scott Stadium.
"We played our games at Scott Stadium when I first came to Charlottesville and it is a terrific venue, really captures the atmosphere of a college lacrosse game," said Virginia head men's lacrosse coach Dom Starsia. "We are very excited to partner with the football team on April 2. It is going to be a great day for UVa fans and we may expose lacrosse to some of the gridiron faithful. I think this is a 'can't miss' day for fans of football and lacrosse."
The last Virginia men's lacrosse game held at Scott Stadium was on March 8, 1995 against Penn State. Scott Stadium was the former home of UVa men's lacrosse and the venue also hosted the program's record attendance for a men's lacrosse game, 13,500, set in 1980 against Washington & Lee.
After the construction of Klöckner Stadium in 1992, the lacrosse program continued to play early season contests on Scott Stadium's artificial turf when late winter storms left the grass field at the program's new home venue unplayable. After the Cavaliers' last men's lacrosse game inside Scott Stadium in 1995 against the Nittany Lions, the artificial turf was removed and replaced with a grass surface in time for the 1995 football campaign.
Tickets for the men's lacrosse game will be $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors, and UVa faculty and staff for General Admission seating. General Admission seating will be available on the east and west sides of the stadium in the lower level. Men's lacrosse and all-Lacrosse Reserved Seat season ticket holders will be assigned Reserved Seating in section 125 at Scott Stadium. New tickets for this game will be mailed to all ticket holders to be used on April 2.
Admission to the Orange-Blue spring football game will be free following the conclusion of the men's lacrosse contest.
Scott Stadium's East, West and South lots and the North D lot off Alderman Road will be available for free parking starting at 8 a.m. Free public parking will also be available in the Emmet / Ivy Parking Garage and University Hall parking lots. Hourly rates will apply at the Central Grounds Garage. Scott Stadium's gates will open at 11 a.m.
In addition to the men's lacrosse contest being televised by ESPNU, the game will be broadcast by radio station WINA 1070 AM in Charlottesville. The football team will take the field approximately five minutes after the conclusion of the men's lacrosse game. The football team's Orange-Blue spring game will begin after a warm-up period that will last approximately 35 minutes.
