Eight Games Highlight Hofstra Sked
from press release
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - A 14-game schedule that includes eight
home games highlight the 2011 Hofstra Men's Lacrosse schedule,
Pride Head Coach Seth Tierney announced Monday.
Hofstra, which will have its earliest regular season opening ever
in 2011, begins the season in the friendly confines of James M.
Shuart Stadium on Tuesday, February 15 against the Red Raiders of
Colgate. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since
1961.
The Pride, who will open the season with five consecutive
non-conference games, will travel to Sacred Heart in Fairfield,
Connecticut on Saturday, February 19 before returning home to face
NCAA Championship-participant Princeton on Saturday, February 26.
It will be the 24th meeting between Hofstra and Princeton in a
series that began in 1972.
With NCAA Championship participants Johns Hopkins and Army electing
not to have Hofstra on their schedules in 2011, the Tigers are one
of two 2010 NCAA tournament teams on the Pride schedule. But 10 of
Hofstra's 14 opponents have played in the NCAA Championship,
including eight since 2005.
"We are excited about our 2011 schedule," Pride Head Coach Seth
Tierney said. "It is a nice blend of new and old rivals. We have
played 13 of our 14 opponents in the past with the only exception
being new CAA member St. Joseph's University. But we expect they,
too, will quickly become a rival with a conference title at
stake."
The Pride hit the road to start March, traveling to Cambridge,
Massachusetts to face Harvard on Saturday, March 5. Hofstra returns
home to face the Air Force on Sunday, March 13. It will be the
first meeting between the Pride and the Falcons since 2001.
The 2011 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) season begins on
Saturday, March 19 at defending CAA champions, Delaware. The Pride
had a thrilling 12-11 victory over the Blue Hens to open the New
Meadowlands Stadium in 2010. Hofstra will host Big East opponent
St. John's on Tuesday, March 22 before returning to the CAA
schedule against Drexel at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday,
March 26, and at Towson on Saturday, April 2.
Manhattan College makes its second trip to Long Island to face
Hofstra on Tuesday, April 5 before the Pride travel to new
CAA-member St. Joseph's University (PA) on Saturday, April 9 and
non-conference opponent Fairfield on Saturday, April 16. Hofstra
closes the regular season with two CAA home games against
Massachusetts on Saturday, April 23, and Penn State on Saturday,
April 30.
The top four teams during the CAA regular season will compete in
the CAA Championship Tournament on Wednesday, May 4 with the finals
scheduled for Saturday, May 7. The 2011 NCAA Championship begins
with first round play on the Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15.
Quarterfinals are scheduled for the following weekend (May 21-22)
with Hofstra University hosting the Southern Quarterfinal on May
21.
The Northern Quarterfinal will be held at Gillette Stadium in
Foxborough, Massachusetts. The NCAA Championship weekend will be
held M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Saturday, May 28 for the
semifinals and Monday, May 30 for the championship game.
