Keogh, Nixon Honored by Big East

from press release

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Stephen Keogh of Syracuse and Chris Nixon of Georgetown were tabbed BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, in the sport of men’s lacrosse in the 11th week of the season.

Keogh tallied four goals to help the Orange clinch at least a share of the inaugural BIG EAST regular-season title as Syracuse won at then-No. RV/T19 Notre Dame 12-6 on May 1. The junior attackman scored twice as the Orange jumped out to a 5-0 lead. He tallied two man-up goals in the fourth quarter as part of another 5-0 SU run that broke open a 7-6 game. It was Keogh’s first multi-goal game since he scored three times against Albany on April 3. Keogh earns his second BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, and the fifth for Syracuse.

Nixon picked up three ground balls and had four caused turnovers in Georgetown’s 14-9 home win over Rutgers on May 1. The senior defender held Rutgers’ leading scorer Justin Pennington to one point, an assist that came late in the fourth quarter. The Georgetown defense held Rutgers without a shot on goal in the second period, and allowed a combined two shots on goal in the final two periods. Nixon earns his first career BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor this season, and the third for Georgetown.
