Hofstra's Bentz Named CAA Player of Week

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Hofstra junior attackman
Stephen Bentz has been named the Colonial Athletic Association
Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending
Sunday, May 2, the league office announced Monday.
Bentz, a native of Massapequa, New York, equaled his career-highs with five goals and five points in the Pride’s 12-10 CAA victory over Towson at Shuart Stadium last Saturday night. He tallied two goals in the first half and three in the second half as Hofstra posted its ninth win of the year against just four losses. Bentz tallied five goals on March 20 against Sacred Heart in a 14-6 victory. He also recorded five points (3 goals, 2 assists) on March 6 against Brown in a 15-12 win. He is having the best season of his career in 2010. Bentz is second on the team with 28 goals and third in assists (12) and points (40).
Bentz shares the CAA award with Delaware attackman Curtis Dickson. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native recorded a game-high six goals in the Blue Hens’ 14-10 victory at Penn State Friday. The senior, who also dished out one assist in the game, helped Delaware clinch the No. 2 seed and a first-round home game in the CAA Championships. Dickson extended streaks of 23-straight games with a goal and 54-straight with a point. He also upped his season goal total to 54.
The CAA also announced that Drexel attackman Robert Church was selected the CAA Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. Also from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Church tallied a one-goal, two-assist game in No. 13 Drexel’s 12-6 win over No. 9 Massachusetts Saturday. The freshman assisted on a Brendan Glynn goal in the second quarter which was part of 7-0 run for the Dragons. Church scored his goal and added another assist in the fourth quarter against the Minutemen. On the year, Church has a team-best 29 goals in 14 games.
