Former Lacrosse Coach Dietrich von Schwerdtner Passes

Dietrich von Schwerdtner, who helped start the men's lacrosse program at Towson University, passed away on Friday, April 30.
A graduate of Baltimore's Boys' Latin School, von Schwerdtner coached the club team at Towson in 1958 and helped moved the program to varsity status for the following season. He moved on to St. Paul's (Md.) School where he was a junior varsity coach and then went the Peddie School (N.J.) in 1965 where he enjoyed tremendous success as a coach and teacher. He won 99 games at Peddie and led the team to two Pitt Division championships (1969, 1976). He was inducted into the inaugural class of the US Lacrosse New Jersey Chapter Hall of Fame in 1997.
A celebration of von's life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Chambersburg, Pa. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
