Denver Duo Nets ECAC Weekly Honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – University of Denver sophomore Patrick Rogers (Portland, Ore.) and senior Peter Lowell (Freeport, Maine) were honored for their performances in the Pioneers’ 12-4 win over No. 6 Loyola as the ECAC Co-Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced today by the Eastern College Athletic Conference league office.
 
This is the fifth straight week that a Pioneer student-athlete was honored for his performance on the field, and the first time this season that two Pioneers have been honored in the same week.
 
Denver is in its first season as members of the ECAC and this is the Pioneers eighth weekly award this season, first for both Rogers and Lowell.
 
ECAC LACROSSE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Patrick Rogers, Denver
Sophomore, Midfielder, Portland, Ore.
Rogers led the Pioneers with five points on three goals and two assists to help No. 16 Denver defeat No. 6 Loyola in the ECAC Championship game played in front of 2,762 fans at Invesco Field at Mile High. The sophomore scored the first goal of the game just two minutes into the day’s action and scored the game-winning goal with just eight seconds left in the second quarter. This was Rogers’ third hat trick of the season and seventh game with two or more goals. To date, the attackman has 19 goals and four assists for 23 points.
 
Sean Doyle, Bellarmine
Senior, Attack, Rochester, N.Y.
Doyle scored five goals on just six shots in the Knights 14-13 victory over Ohio State on Saturday in Columbus. Doyle finishes the season as the Knights leading goal-scorer with 34 and points leader with 43
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peter Lowell, Denver
Senior, Goalkeeper, Freeport, Maine
Lowell turned in his best performance of the season, making 15 saves and allowing only four goals to help the No. 16 Pioneers defeat the No. 6 Loyola Greyhounds, 12-4, and claim the ECAC Championship. The senior tied his career-high in saves that he set last season against Air Force in the team’s final game of the season. He finished the day with a 78.9 save percentage in 58:13 minutes of action. For the season, Lowell has made 95 saves and has a 9.64 GAA to go along with a 52.5 save percentage. He is also 8-1-0 in 535:08 minutes of action.
 
ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Dominique Alexander, Ohio State
Freshman, Midfielder, Baldwin, N.Y.
Alexander had a career-high four goals and points against Bellarmine on Saturday in Ohio Stadium. He opened the scoring early in the first quarter and scored late in the second to cut the Bellarmine lead to one. He completed the hat trick with 29 seconds left in the third quarter to tie the game at eight-all and his final goal came with 1:53 left in regulation to force overtime as Ohio State rallied from three goals down in the fourth quarter. He had six shots, and one groundball, in the contest.
