Drexel Drops Another Top-10 Team in UMass
from press release
PHILADELPHIA -- Scott Perri scored four goals and Adam Dennis added three goals and four points as the Dragons defeated No. 9 UMass on Senior Day at Vidas Field, 12-6.
It was the fourth win for the Dragons against a top 10 team this
season. With the win, Drexel secured the third seed in the upcoming
CAA Tournament and will travel to arch-rival Delaware on
Wednesday.
Drexel (10-4, 3-2 CAA) fell behind early as the Minutemen (8-5,
2-3) scored the first three goals of the game. The Dragons answered
with the next seven goals to take control of the game. Perri and
Andrew Collins found the back of the net in the first quarter and
the Dragons tied it when Dennis set up Kevin Stockel in the first
minute of the second quarter. Perri put the Dragons up for good at
the 10:23 mark. Drexel’s lead increased a few minute later in
what turned out to be one of the biggest turns in the game,
Drexel’s Frank Tufano was slashed, but retained possession
and scored a goal to give the Dragons the lead. On the ensuing
man-up, Robert Church set up Brendan Glynn to put Drexel up 6-3.
Stockel scored his second of the half to make it 7-3. UMass
wasn’t able to get any closer the rest of the way. The teams
traded goals at the end of the quarter and went to intermission at
8-4.
Mark Manos made 13 saves for the Dragons, including 10 in the
second half, as the Dragons won their 10th game for the third time
in the last four seasons. Tim McCormick had 12 saves for the
Minutemen.
The CAA Tournament begins on Wednesday night. The time has not been
announced yet for the Drexel-Delaware game. UMass will be the
fourth seed in the tournament and will face Towson, who is the top
seed.
