Siena Rallies to Stay Perfect in MAAC
from press release
EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Ryan Duggan scored two goals
and assisted on another to bring Siena back from a 7-4 deficit with
six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and Chris Roth tallied
the game winner with 48 seconds left to seal the comeback victory
over Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Maryland Saturday
afternoon.
This is Siena's (9-4, 6-0) second win over an undefeated MAAC team
in three days (defeated Marist 14-4 on Wednesday). The Saints are
now the only perfect team in the conference with a 6-0 league
record.
Duggan led the team with five points on three goals and two
assists. His three points in the final six minutes of the game
erased a three-goal deficit.
The Mount (8-4, 5-1) held an advantage in shots (34-30), ground
balls (25-19) and faceoffs (12-of-16).
Siena goalie Brent Herbst out-dueled T.C. DiBartolo just enough.
Herbst made 12 saves and allowed six goals (Bill Kelly allowed one
goal while Herbst was serving a penalty in the third quarter) and
DiBartolo made 10 saves and gave up eight goals.
DiBartolo won MAAC First Team last season while Herbst took Second
Team honors. Herbst went on to win Most Outstanding Player in the
MAAC Tournament and guide Siena to its first NCAA Tournament.
The Saints can clinch the MAAC Regular Season Title and its fourth
straight 10-win season with a victory against Canisius on
Wednesday. That game will be played in Buffalo at 3 p.m.
