All-ACC Men's Lacrosse Team Announced
from press release
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Eight 2010 Tewaaraton
Trophy nominees highlight this year’s All-Atlantic Coast
Conference Men’s Lacrosse Team as announced Thursday by the
league office.
All four ACC men’s programs are represented on the annual
All-ACC team, while upcoming league tournament host Maryland placed
a conference-high four representatives on the 2010 squad, which was
determined by a vote of the four head coaches.
Senior attackman Max Quinzani leads the fourth-ranked Blue Devils,
who handed Virginia its first loss of the season in the
teams’ most recent contest. Quinzani, who tops all ACC
student-athletes and ranks fourth in the country in goals per game
(3.36), tallied ACC single-game highs with eight points and six
goals against Penn on Feb. 27. 2009 ACC Player of the Year Ned
Crotty and classmate Parker McKee joined Quinzani as the trio of
Duke representatives honored for 2010.
Tewaaraton candidate Grant Catalino, who headlines the Maryland
honorees, leads the Terrapins in points, goals, and shots this
season. Joining the junior attackman on the league’s
postseason team are Maryland juniors Brett Schmidt and Ryan Young
and senior Brian Phipps. Young ranks second in the league and
seventh in the nation in assists per game with a 2.0 average.
North Carolina attackman Billy Bitter and defender Ryan Flanagan
spearhead a trio of Tar Heels named to this year’s All-ACC
team. Both were named Tewaaraton candidates for 2010, an award
given annually to the top men’s lacrosse player in the
country. Also honored from the Tar Heel squad is junior goalkeeper
Chris Madalon, who ranks third among all Division I
student-athletes in goals-against average (6.97) and leads the ACC
in save percentage (.571).
Wrapping up the all-league team are a pair of Virginia players in
senior Ken Clausen and sophomore Steele Stanwick, both of which are
Tewaaraton Trophy candidates. Clausen currently leads the Cavaliers
with 40 groundballs on the season and 26 caused turnovers, while
Stanwick holds the team lead with 21 assists and is second on the
team with 21 goals.
Individual awards, such as Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year, which are also voted on by the head coaches, are scheduled to be announced at a later time.
