Lehigh's Fantoni Earns Patriot Rookie Nod

BETHLEHEM, Pa.
 - Fresh off a week in which he scored nine points and helped lead Lehigh to a pair of wins, freshman Dante Fantoni (Hauppauge, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. Fantoni scored seven goals in the pair of contests and also handed out two assists as Lehigh extended its winning streak to three games and moved over .500 for the season. This is Fantoni's first weekly award from the Patriot League.

The freshman standout began his week with a two-goal, two-assist performance in Lehigh's thrilling 16-15 overtime win at Binghamton on March 30 in New York. The New York native scored both of his goals in the third quarter as Lehigh began its comeback against the Bearcats.

On April 3 Fantoni had a terrific game with five goals on just seven shots in a 9-6 win over Sacred Heart. Four of Fantoni's goals came after halftime as Lehigh outscored the Pioneers 7-2 after halftime, and his third score of the day tied things at six with 9:51 remaining.

For the season Fantoni has scored a team best 19 goals and totaled a team leading 30 points. He has also handed out 11 assists, scooped up 12 ground balls and caused four turnovers.

Fantoni and the Mountain Hawks return to the field on Saturday, April 10 when they travel to Hamilton, New York for a crucial Patriot League showdown with the Colgate Raiders. The opening face-off is set for 7:00 and the game will be shown live nationwide on CBS College Sports.
