Princeton Edges Brown at Gillette Stadium

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Whenever Brown and Princeton get together it’s sure to be a strong defensive effort by both teams. 16th-ranked Brown battled 5th-ranked Princeton in the New England Lacrosse Classic at Gillette Stadium, falling to the Tigers by a 9-7 margin in a key Ivy League match-up.
The loss, Brown’s fourth to a Top 10 ranked team, drops
the Bears to 3-4 overall, 1-1 in the Ivy League. Brown's
losses have now come to #5 Princeton, #7 Duke, #8 Hofstra and #9
UMass by a total of seven goals. Princeton extended its record to
7-1 overall, 3-0 in Ivy play, with the win.
Brown tied the roller-coaster game, 6-6, on a goal by senior
All-American Thomas Muldoon, with 10:18 remaining to play and just
five seconds after Princeton had taken the lead.
Princeton took the lead for good, 7-6, on Chris McBride’s
unassisted goal with 5:17 left on the clock. Goals by
Princeton’s Paul Barnes and Tyler Moni with 2:00 remaining to
play.
Junior Reade Seligman gave the Bears hope with 53 seconds remaining
to cut the Tigers’ lead to 9-7, but that was as close as the
Bears would get.
Princeton held a 3-2 lead after one quarter, and the score remained
that way after a scoreless second quarter.
Junior Andrew Feinberg tied the game, 3-3, early in the third
quarter, but the Tigers answered with consecutive goals by Jack
McBride and Alex Capretta to pull ahead, 5-3, with 6:01 left in the
quarter.
Sophomore Rob Schlesinger scored for Brown to pull to within one
goal, 5-4, after three quarters of play.
Hawley and Feinberg led the Bears with two goals each, while
Seligmann added a goal and an assist. Junior Matt Chriss made nine
saves in goal for the Bears.
Both McBride’s, Jack and Chris, scored two goals each
to lead the Tigers. Tyler Fiorito came up with 17 saves in goal for
the Tigers, including eight in the fourth quarter.
