Lehigh Looks to Push Winning Streak to Three

from press release

BETHLEHEM, Pa.
- This Saturday, April 3, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team will face the Pioneers of Sacred Heart for the first time in school history at 2 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. This is the second consecutive game that the Mountain Hawks will be facing an opponent for the first time after defeating Binghamton in overtime 16-15 on Tuesday evening in New York. Freshman Alex Drake scored the game-winner for the Brown and White as Lehigh overcame an early 7-2 deficit to move to 5-5 on the season.

With a team comprised of a large number of freshmen and sophomores Lehigh had a slow start to the 2010 season, but the Mountain Hawks have rebounded nicely to earn wins in three of their past four contests, including the dramatic victory in New York on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks outscored the Bearcats 11-5 in the final two quarters and overtime in that game, and scored six of the game's final seven goals. Senior Brian Bienemann registered his second straight solid outing for the Brown and White with six points on the evening, while sophomore Cameron Lao-Gosney found the back of the net four times, tying Bienemann for team-high honors.

On the season Cameron Lao-Gosney leads Lehigh with 18 goals, while freshman Dante Fantoni paces the Mountain Hawks with 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists). Bienemann (15), Adam Johnston (15) and Roman Lao-Gosney (10) have also scored double digit goals and freshman David DiMaria leads the team with 15 assists.

Junior Will Scudder continues to be a dominant force in the X for Lehigh, as he currently leads the entire Patriot League and ranks third in America with a win percentage of 58.8 to go along with a team-leading 45 ground balls. Senior captain Evan Guerrero, who was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, leads the Mountain Hawks with 19 caused turnovers, which includes a season-best three in Lehigh's win over Holy Cross last weekend.

Sacred Heart had won two straight games prior to falling at Mount St. Mary's on March 31 by a score of 9-8 in a game in which SHU scored three times in the final 2:17 but came up one goal short. The Pioneers have been led by several key players throughout the season, including senior attack Evan Morgan, who was recently named the Sacred Heart Student-Athlete of the Week for scoring the game winning goal against Hartford on March 27.

SHU's leading scorer is senior Timmy Katz, who has 24 goals and 31 points under his belt. Katz is also 28th in the country in points per game. Katz is not the only player on Sacred Heart who is ranked in the national statistics as senior goalkeeper Tom Trgo is ranked eighth in the country with a 57.8 save percentage. The Pioneers leader in ground balls is Tim Sanders who has scooped up 21, while Stephen Kontos has won a team-high 63 face-offs.

Saturday's game will begin at 2:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex with all of the action broadcast live on Lehighsports.com.
