from press release
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Seven different Stags scored, including pairs of goals from three, to help the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory at Colgate this afternoon.
Sophomore Brent Adams, junior Nick Baglio, and sophomore John Snellman each touched net twice to help power the Stags offensive. Adams also chipped in with three ground balls.
The Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead just 36 seconds into the first quarter, but rookie Sam Snow tied it up at the 10:48 mark.
Snellman put the Stags ahead 2-1 at 13:52 in the second period after putting home a feed from Snow during an extra-man opportunity. Baglio and Marshall Johnson scored back-to-back goals to extend the Fairfield lead to 4-1 with 4:57 remaining in the half.
Colgate (1-6) pulled within 4-3 on a goal by Ben McCabe to start the third quarter but consecutive tallies by Snellman and Adams, 13 seconds apart, returned the lead to three goals.
In the fourth quarter, Baglio gave Fairfield its largest lead of the day, 9-5, at the 9:48 mark. The Red Raiders surged back pulling within 9-8 on a goal by Peter Baum at 4:32. The Stags were able to stave off the Colgate attack and Adams added an insurance goal with 1:57 left to play for the win.
Senior Joe Marra made 16 saves on the afternoon while his Colgate counterpart, Tim Harrington made 11 stops.
Steve Golmont collected six groundballs and won 11 faceoffs. Defensively, Drew Palmer had four groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Fairfield (3-2) returns to action on March 23 when the Stags host Ohio State at 7pm at Alumni Stadium.
