HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Seven different Stags scored,
including pairs of goals from three, to help the Fairfield
University men's lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory at Colgate this
afternoon.
Sophomore Brent Adams, junior Nick Baglio, and sophomore John
Snellman each touched net twice to help power the Stags offensive.
Adams also chipped in with three ground balls.
The Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead just 36 seconds into the first
quarter, but rookie Sam Snow tied it up at the 10:48 mark.
Snellman put the Stags ahead 2-1 at 13:52 in the second period
after putting home a feed from Snow during an extra-man
opportunity. Baglio and Marshall Johnson scored back-to-back goals
to extend the Fairfield lead to 4-1 with 4:57 remaining in the
half.
Colgate (1-6) pulled within 4-3 on a goal by Ben McCabe to start
the third quarter but consecutive tallies by Snellman and
Adams, 13 seconds apart, returned the lead to three goals.
In the fourth quarter, Baglio gave Fairfield its largest lead of
the day, 9-5, at the 9:48 mark. The Red Raiders surged back pulling
within 9-8 on a goal by Peter Baum at 4:32. The Stags were able to
stave off the Colgate attack and Adams added an insurance goal with
1:57 left to play for the win.
Senior Joe Marra made 16 saves on the afternoon while his
Colgate counterpart, Tim Harrington made 11 stops.
Steve Golmont collected six groundballs and won 11 faceoffs.
Defensively, Drew Palmer had four groundballs and caused two
turnovers.
Fairfield (3-2) returns to action on March 23 when the Stags
host Ohio State at 7pm at Alumni Stadium.
