ECAC LACROSSE PLAYERS OF
THE WEEK
Co-Offensive Players of the Week
Colin Scott, Denver
Freshman, Attack, Ridgefield, Conn.
Scott led the Pioneers to a 10-5 win over the visiting Canisius
Golden Griffins over the weekend, scoring four goals, one of which
was a man-up goal, while also registering one assist for five
points. The freshman finished the night with seven shots, five of
which were on goal for a 71.4 shot-on-goal percentage. Scott also
grabbed two ground balls, helping the Pioneers to their second
straight win.
Christian Haggerty, Quinnipiac
Junior, Attack, West Nyack, N.Y.
Haggerty scored twice and dished out four assists, both game highs,
as Quinnipiac upended Providence College, 12-2, Saturday afternoon.
Haggerty leads the Bobcats so far this season with 15 points on
eight goals and seven assists.
Defensive Player of the Week
Joseph Marra, Fairfield
Senior, Goalkeeper, Smithtown, N.Y.
Marra made a career-high 17 saves as the Stags knocked off No. 3
Notre Dame in Houston on Saturday. The senior made 10 of those
saves in the final quarter, to hold off the charging Irish. Marra
did not face a shot on net in the first quarter, but made four
stops in the secondquarter as the Stags took a 7-2 lead into the
half. He stopped three shots in the third quarter, before the
double-digit fourth quarter effort. Marra also had a team-high four
ground balls in the win.
Rookie of the Week
Jeff Tundo, Ohio State
Freshman, Attack, Orchard Park, N.Y.
Tundo led the Buckeyes with a hat trick in the team's win over
Albany on Saturday, scoring back-to-back goals in the first half to
break the one-all tie and give Ohio State a two-goal lead. His
final goal came in the third quarter, putting Ohio State up 7-3.
The hat trick matched his career high, set in his first career game
against Villanova. He had four groundballs in the game to lead the
Buckeye field players. Against Robert Morris on Tuesday, Tundo had
a goal and an assist. Tundo, who has at least one point in each
game of his collegiate career, leads the Buckeyes with 11 goals and
is second with 15 points.

TEAM NOTES
Air Force...Air Force's win over service academy rival
Army was its first victory over the Black Knights in 17 tries. It
also marked the first time in the history of the series that the
Falcons have hosted the Black Knights... Air Force's overtime
contest was its first overtime game since the 2008 season, when the
Falcons fell to conference foe Quinnipiac, 11-10. The Falcons' last
overtime win was also in 2008, when Air Force opened the season
with an 8-7 victory over Providence... Goalkeeper Brian Wilson
posted 11 saves in the win over Army, marking the third-straight
game that he has tallied more than 10 saves... Sophomore Adam
Paranka registered a career-high two assists in the Falcons'
victory over the Black Knights... Sophomore defenseman Dayton
Gilbreath picked up a career-best six groundballs against Army...
Air Force opens its conference slate against Loyola this weekend,
with its first game this season against a nationally ranked
team.
Bellarmine...Bellarmine University scored the final two goals of
the game to post an 8-7 win on the road at Hartford on Saturday
afternoon...Sean Doyle scored each of the final two goals of the
game, and Bellarmine goalie Scott Bowles registered four saves in
the game's final 3:39 to preserve the win... The Knights were led
by seniors Chase Williams (2 goals, 3 assists) and Shane Andersen
(3 goals, 1 assist)... Bowles ended the day with 16
saves...Bellarmine improved to 4-3 on the year... The Knights are
0-3 at home and 4-0 when on the road or at neutral sites... The
Hartford game served as a homecoming for head coach Jack McGetrick
who spent 11 seasons as the Hawks' head coach, where he is the
winningest coach in program history and earned the national coach
of the year award in 1997... Earlier in the week, the Bryant
Bulldogs overwhelmed the Knights by a score of 13-4, outshooting
Bellarmine 40-19... Bellarmine returns to action on March 21 when
the Knights host Robert Morris at 1 p.m. in Owsley B. Frazier
Stadium.
Denver...The University of Denver men's lacrosse team (3-3) won its
second straight game, defeating visiting Canisius, 10-5, on
Saturday evening at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium...Freshman Colin
Scott led the Pioneers with four goals and an assist, while
freshman Cameron Flint added two goals and an assist... Denver
outshot Canisius, 42-21, including a 20-shot assault in the third
quarter... The Pioneers also led the Golden Griffins 40-21 in
ground balls, and won 12 of the 19 face-offs... Sophomore goalie
Zander Buteux earned the win for Denver after making eight saves...
Senior Charley Dickenson moved up one spot in the Pioneer record
books with 58 career assists as he finished the night with one
assist. The midfielder currently sits in a tie for third place for
career assists... Freshman Chase Carraro continued to impress in
face-offs in his third game back from injury, winning 11-of-18
face-offs and scooping up seven ground balls.
Fairfield...Fairfield earned its second win of the year, defeating
No. 3 Notre Dame, 10-8, at the inaugural 'Beating Cancer With a
Stick' Classic in Houston, Texas... Joseph Marra made a career-high
17 saves, with ten in the fourth quarter, to spearhead the win...
Marra, along with Drew Palmer, Reed Marko and Brendan McTague, had
four ground balls... Eight different Stags scored goals in the
win... The win snapped a three-game losing streak to
nationally-ranked teams... Fairfield is the first team to score
double-digit goals against Notre Dame since Syracuse defeated the
Irish, 11-9, in the quarterfinals of the 2008 NCAA Tournament...
Marshall Johnson saw his first action since the opener and had one
assist... Brent Adams scored for the first time since the opener,
putting both of his shots on the afternoon into the back of the
net... Kevin Peters had two goals and an assist to lead the Stags
offense against the Irish... Max Trunz scored the game-winning
tally and has both gamewinners for the Stags this season...
Fairfield will travel to Colgate on Saturday, ending a season-long
three-game road swing.
Hobart...Hobart played 20th-ranked Bucknell even through the first
two quarters, but the Bison outscored the Statesmen 4-1 in the
pivotal third quarter en route to a 9-7 victory... Bobby Dattilo,
who entered the game 12th in the nation in faceoff winning
percentage, out dueled Bucknell's Jake Clarke (18th), winning 14 of
the day's 20 faceoffs. Dattilo also scooped up six ground balls,
while teammate Alex Caton collected a game-high seven... Kevin
Curtin and Chris Pedersen led the Hobart attack with three points
apiece, while Mike Lazore and Doug Shiver added two goals each...
In goal, Max Silberlicht made 13 saves for the Statesmen, while
Kyle Feeney turned back 11 stops for the Bison... Hobart won't have
to wait long to get a chance to even its record. The Statesmen host
Binghamton on Tues., March 16, at 3:30 p.m. Hobart leads the
all-time series with the Bearcats 3-1, including an 8-4 win last
season... The game kicks off a three-game homestand for the
Statesmen that continues with Quinnipiac on Sat., March 20, and
concludes with Syracuse on Tues., March 23.
Loyola...Loyola celebrated the opening of the Ridley Athletic
Complex on Saturday with a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans that braved
soaking rains and driving wind... The Greyhounds, however, fell to
No. 10 Duke, 8-5... Collin FInnerty scored the first-ever goal at
Ridley, tallying a score on a low-to-low blast just over five
minutes into the game. He finished with three goals, marking the
third time in as many games that the senior attacker has scored
three or more goals... Junior face-off middie John Schiavone had a
tremendous day for Loyola, winning 13-of-17 restarts and picking up
a career-high 12 ground balls. Schiavone was going up against the
Preseason All-America duo of Sam Payton and C.J. Costabile at the
'X'... Pat Byrnes had a career-high two assists for the Greyhounds,
and Cooper MacDonnell and Stephen Murray each added goals for the
Greyhounds... The Greyhounds play their second home game of the
season on Saturday when they host Air Force in a 1 p.m. game that
will be the first broadcast of the season on the ECAC 'Game of the
Week 'package.
Ohio State...The Buckeyes defeated Albany, 11-6, Saturday in Jesse
Owens Memorial Stadium to remain undefeated at home (4-0)... It
marked the squad's first outdoor games in Columbus this season
after three wins inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center... Freshman
Jeff Tundo led the Buckeye attack with a hat trick, with classmate
Logan Schuss scoring twice... Sophomore Keenan Ochwat had a goal
and an assist (the first tally of his career), with junior Mike
Pires also contributing a goal and an assist... Senior goalie
Brandon Freeman had 12 saves in the win... On Tuesday, the Buckeyes
lost on the road at Robert Morris, 12-7... Senior goalie Brandon
Freeman had a season-best 14 saves in the game... Freshman
Dominique Alexander had a team-high and career-best two goals in
the contest... Ohio State now hits the road for its next five
games, beginning with a game at Notre Dame Saturday, followed by a
game at Fairfield the following Tuesday to open the ECAC slate...
James Green, Mike Pires, Logan Schuss and Jeff Tundo each have at
least one point in all six games this season... Freshman Trey
Wilkes won a season-high 18 faceoffs against Robert Morris Tuesday,
going 18-5 on the day while taking all the draws for the Buckeyes.
He had seven groundballs to lead the Buckeyes and tie the team
season high... Freshman Logan Schuss is first on the team with nine
assists and 19 points and second with 10 goals... Classmate Jeff
Tundo has a team-high 11 goals and ranks second with 15 points.
Quinnipiac...The Bobcats (3-1) won their third straight game with a
dominant 12-2 home victory Saturday against Providence...Christian
Haggerty led the Bobcats with six points (2 G, 4 A), while Jack
Oppenheimer added three points (2 G, 1 A)...The Bobcats never
trailed in the game, scoring six of the first seven goals to cruise
to victory... Kevin Benzing made seven saves while allowing just
two goals in 52:55... Zach Pall had another strong game on
face-offs, finding success on 10-of-16 opportunities. He also
picked up a team-best nine ground balls...Quinnipiac will face ECAC
member Hobart this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
