HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Hobart lacrosse team
extended its winning streak to 24 games against Colgate with a 12-9
decision at Kerr Stadium. The Statesmen, who haven't lost to the
Raiders since 1964, improve to 1-1, while Colgate falls to 1-3.

opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest,
finishing a feed from Suits. Hobart won the ensuing faceoff and
raced to the cage. Curtin feed Pedersen 12 seconds after Shiver's
goal for a 2-0 lead. The Statesmen had to wait a whole 44 seconds
for its third goal, an unassisted strike by Curtin.
Pedersen set up Shiver's second goal for a 4-0 lead at the 7:18
mark of the first quarter.
Peter Baum (3 gls) interrupted the run with 4:56 left in the frame,
but Curtin and Pedersen logged goals before the first quarter came
to a close.
The Raiders rallied from their slow start, outscoring Hobart 4-1 in
the second quarter, but still trailed 7-5 at halftime.
Midfielder Tyler Cassell opened the second half scoring to give the
Statesmen a three-goal edge, but Colgate struck back with
back-to-back goals by Chris Zieinski and Ben McCabe to make it a
one-goal game with 6:29 left in the third quarter.
Suits, set up by Pedersen, gave Hobart some breathing room 92
seconds before the close of the third.
Cassell logged his second goal of the game with 8:37 left in the
fourth quarter to put the Statesmen back up by three. McCabe scored
again at 7:08, but Suits converted on the extra-man at 5:34 to make
it 11-8. Baum closed out his day with a man-up goal of his own with
1:55 to go, but Pedersen's unassisted strike 18 seconds later
wrapped up the day's
scoring.
Goalie Max Silberlicht earned the win with 13 saves, while the
tandem of Harrington (7 GA) and Jared Madison (5 GA) combined for
11 stops.
