Flood, Katz Spark Sacred Heart over Presbyterian

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Senior attacks Jon Flood
(Hauppauge, NY) and Timmy Katz (Freeport, NY) poured in four goals
apiece in a 13-6 win over Presbyterian on Campus Field Sunday
afternoon. The win was the first of the season for the
Pioneers, as the improved to 1-1, while the Blue Hose dropped what
was their season opener.
Sophomore Chris Casey (Duxbury, MA) netted the first goal of the
game for SHU, 4:10 into the first quarter. Katz, assisted by
Flood, followed 32 seconds later with his first of four
goals. PC sophomore Patrick Foy connected on a man-up
opportunity to cut the Pioneer lead to one, but Flood answered back
with two goals of his own.
All four goals by Katz were scored in the first half, including his
fourth with 0.7 seconds remaining in play. For the game he
would also finish with a pair of assists.
Senior attack Evan Morgan (Ashburn, VA) collected four assists for
the Pioneers, while also finding the back of the net once.
Flood also added one assist to go with his four scores.
Junior attack Devin Pinkston provided much of the Presbyterian
offense with two goals and an assist. Freshman Tyler Melnyk
added one goal and one assist.
Sacred Heart held a 48-36 advantage in shots. Both teams were
successful twice on six extra-man opportunities.
Senior goalie Tom Trgo (N. Merrick, NY) stopped 16 shots in between
the pipes for SHU. In net for the Blue Hose, junior Jon
Athens also made 16 saves.
The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday as they host former
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Marist at 1:00 pm.
