Donlon, Binghamton Knock Off No. 20 Colgate

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Junior Frank Donlon scored two
goals and dropped off an assist leading Binghamton (1-0) to a close
7-6 win over No. 20 Colgate (0-1) in a non-conference men's
lacrosse game on a chilly Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports
Complex. The win was Binghamton's fifth win over a ranked team in
program history.
Binghamton opened the game with quick goal from Donlon at the
13:46 mark in the first quarter. Colgate quickly answered with
three goals before Donlon would get his second goal of the day just
before the period ended to end the first 3-2 in Colgate's
favor.
The Bearcats scored four of the next five goals, including a pair
from freshman Matt Springer to take a 6-4 lead into the fourth.
The Raiders would strike back and freshman Peter Baum would
complete his hat-trick with a goal at the 9:24 mark knotting the
game at 6 apiece. However, freshman Tyler Perrelle would score the
eventual game winner a little more than a minute later leading
Binghamton to the win.
The Raiders out-shot Binghamton 28-27 and won 12 of the 17
face-offs. Each team had 27 ground balls.
Senior Steve Carlson and Junior David Raleigh also scored for the
Bearcats, while Senior Andy Cook picked up an assist. Junior goalie
Dan Solazzo made 12 saves in his debut.
Binghamton stays home to face LaFayette at noon on Saturday,
February 27.
