Lacrosse Magazine has put the finishing touches on its 2010 college preview issue, which mailed US Lacrosse members the first week of February. LM canvassed rival coaches to give us their anonymous take on the top 10 preseason ranked teams for Division I men's and women's lacrosse.

Scouting Report: No. 10 Notre Dame (Men)

Grant Krebs headlines what Notre Dame men's lacrosse coach Kevin Corrigan says is "maybe the best first-line midfield in the country."

HEAD COACH: Kevin Corrigan
CONFERENCE:
Big East
2009 RECORDS: 15-1, 5-0 (in GWLL)

WHO'S BACK

G Scott Rodgers (Sr.)
First-team All-American is a house at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds and led nation in save percentage (.663).
M Grant Krebs (Sr.)
Anchors dangerous midfield line; scored 29 goals in '09.
LSM Andrew Irving (Sr.)
Looking for ground ball hog (51 GBs) to improve shut-down defense.
D Sam Barnes (Sr.)
Time for All-American Barnes (28 GBs) to shine as "the guy" on Notre Dame's 'D.'
A Neal Hicks (Sr.)
Georgia product is Irish's lone returning starter on attack (25g, 18a); crafty off-ball guy will need to do more carrying it.

WHO'S NOT

A Ryan Hoff
All-American was arguably the greatest pure finisher in Notre Dame history.
A Duncan Swezey
Dodging abilities often opened things up for slides and Irish's midfield.
M Peter Christman
Mr. Clutch. Who's got the ball when Notre Dame needs to stick one in the last 10 seconds?
D Regis McDermott
All-American leaves leadership void on Irish 'D.'

WHO'S NEW

M Pat Cotter
Most celebrated member of UND's freshman class (US Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American at Georgetown Prep) could earn some minutes on second line.
G John Kemp
Interesting twist. Scott Rodgers spent three years backing up three-time NCAA All-American Joey Kemp before emerging on his own. Now, Kemp's much-hyped younger brother John (also a USL and Under Armour All-American at Georgetown Prep) gets a year of tutelage behind Rodgers.

X FACTOR

Zach Brenneman and, presumably, David Earl join Krebs on what head coach Kevin Corrigan says is "maybe the best first-line midfield in the country." Notre Dame will need as much as it can muster from the midfield in the new, run-and-gun Big East.

RIVAL COACHES' TAKES

"A 15-0 season ended with a thud in the NCAA tournament. The losses of Hoff and McDermott are softened by strong recruits and returning All-Americans Rodgers, Barnes and Krebs. New freshmen middies, a top goalie,  defense and a great first midfield line will determine their final four path."

"They have maybe the best goalie and do a great job in protecting him with solid team defense."

"Their inside threat is gone. How much does that affect them on 'O?'"
