VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior attack Jake Boyce and junior midfielder Steve Carlson Binghamton (3-11, 2-3 AE) Hartford (2-11, 1-4 AE) in an America East Conference men's lacrosse game on Saturday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the win, the Bearcats earn their sixth consecutive berth in the upcoming America East Tournament, which will begin on Wednesday night. Binghamton will be the No. 4 seed and face top-seeded and host UMBC in the semifinals.

Hartford was paced by Ryan Compitello, who also finished with three goals. He scored twice in the opening nine minutes of the game as the Hawks built an early 3-0 lead. Carlson scored with 5:01 left in the opening period, trimming the deficit to 3-1.

Boyce was the star of the second quarter, scoring twice and adding an assist as the Bearcats took a 5-4 halftime lead. When senior midfielder Kevin Joy made it 6-4 with 2:30 gone in the third quarter, Binghamton appeared to be in control of the game.

Binghamton, however, regrouped and scored the final three goals of the period. Carlson tied the game up with 4:47 left in the period and sophomore attack Frank Donlon followed with a goal and assist in the final four minutes.

Down 9-7 entering the fourth quarter, Hartford's Vinny Pellizzi made it a one-goal game at the 12:16 mark. Six minutes of scoreless action followed before Boyce and Carlson scored back-to-back goals in a span of 1:06, giving the Bearcats the breathing room they would need down the stretch.

Binghamton outshot Hartford 30-24 but lost the face off battle 13-11. The Bearcats also held a 22-20 edge in ground balls.

Senior goalie Larry Kline made nine saves, seven of which came during the first 30 minutes.
