Drexel Keeps CAA Playoff Hopes Alive
from press release
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Joe Wojciechowski, Kevin
Stockel and Colin Ambler led a balanced scoring attack with three
points each as Drexel defeated Sacred Heart, 10-4. The win keeps
the Dragons’ playoff hopes alive and sets up a showdown with
Delaware for a spot in the CAA playoffs next weekend at Vidas
Field.
The game was scoreless for just under 10 minutes before the Dragons
(6-7, 2-3 CAA) rattled off three-straight goals within a span of
three minutes to end the first quarter. Scott Perri started the
scoring before Chris Farquhar and Adam Dennis followed to put the
Dragons up 3-0 after one. Joe Wojciechowski gave Drexel a four-goal
cushion in the second period before the Pioneers (4-9, 1-4) got on
the board when Bobby Karl scored with just over six minutes left in
the half. Drexel answered just 45 second later when Kyle Bergman
set up Kevin Stockel as the Dragons led 5-1 halfway through.
Dan Casciano opened the second-half scoring as the Pioneers cut the
lead to 5-2. That was as close as Sacred Heart would get the rest
of the way. Casey, Stockel, Wojciechowski, Ambler and Bergman would
tally second half goals as the Dragons won for the second-straight
game. The Dragons outshot the Pioneers, 42-27, and Mark Manos
turned aside 12 Sacred Heart shots. It was the third time this year
Manos and the Dragons have held an opponent to four goals.
Drexel and Delaware meet on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in West
Philadelphia. Both teams enter the game at 2-3 in Colonial Athletic
Association play. The winner of the game will secure a spot in the
CAA Tournament, which begins on April 29. The game can also be seen
live on the Comcast Network.
